Tarzan Archives Hardcover – March 9, 2010

This is another excellent collection in a fantastic series. The Tarzan comic books from the Dell years included some amazing adventures of the ape-man, taking him to exotic locales and battling ferocious beasts."The Winged Terror" pits Tarzan against a pair of giant eagles, for one example. His frequent companion is his adopted son, Boy; however, Jane appears only briefly in these tales. The color is bright and vibrant, the stories are fast-paced, and the collection is a fun read for anyone who enjoys a good Tarzan yarn. Featured on the covers of the comic books is Lex Barker, who starred in five Tarzan films over a five-year period, and was the current Tarzan when these stories were published. One thing that would have improved this reading experience would be to have included the "Brothers of the Spear" stories that appeared in the original Tarzan comic books--without them and without the original text stories, this is not a complete reproduction of each issue. However, the Tarzan content was always the main attraction, and those stories are presented in all of their glory--and there are separate volumes collecting "Brothers of the Spear." That one quibble aside, these are excellent volumes and highly recommended.

As an old geezer who remembers plunking down my dime for these early Dell Tarzan issues, this is a very fond nostalgic memory. Not only did I buy Tarzan but I picked up Red Ryder, the Lone Ranger, Roy Rogers, Donald Duck, Andy Panda and many others as well. Back in those days we did a lot of trading, so we read a great many different titles and from many different publishers. However, for me, the old Dell comics were what all others were measured by. Tarzan was the best of the lot; very well written and the art was excellent! Back then the human body was not drawn so muscular as to be grotesque. And I thank the Dell editors for that. At any rate, these Tarzan and Turok archives are the best comics being published today! If you've never read 'em, give 'em a try! They are really good stuff!

Gaylord DuBois and Jesse Marsh are the perfect combination for spinning the Jungle Tales of Tarzan. Low key and full of humanity while telling of the super human heroics of the Lord of the Jungle and his family. DuBois's stories are near as entertaining and imaginative as ERB himself and the simplicity and expert rendering by Jesse Marsh is spot-on. The perfect combo.

Tarzan classic illustrated comics were the most favourite for me, specially when he confronted with Tyrannosaurs and other prehistoric creatures imagined by Late Late Hall Hogarth, Jesse Marsh and Russ. Late Edgar Rice Burroughs was amazing , nobody can compare with that man from Kentucky USA.
