A hasty marriage!
Jude and Maryโs first kiss turns into a hasty marriage that the Englisch professor hopes to get annulled because he has no intention of staying on Ice Mountain now that his study of Amish mountain culture has ended. I was impressed with Maryโs blind trust to venture into the Englisch world because she truly wants her marriage to work and how her faith plays a huge part in the story. She has no fear because itโs Godโs plan for her though Judeโs world is filled with mean spirited people and she has to flee. As their two cultures clash Jude and Mary will be tested time and again as they struggle with honesty, compassion and commitment in the Amish community. I really enjoyed the antics, wisdom and spirituality of Bishop Umble who is quite an entertaining character.

beautiful story
There is so much that is realistic about their life, I felt as though I was there. I had the feeling that I was part of the family!

A novel that is full of surprises
I recently finished reading The Amish Bride of ICE MOUNTAIN written by Kelly Long. This novel gives a slightly different take on what we know as "typically" Amish. I found this novel to be intriguing, uplifting, emotional, and full of surprises. Kelly's style is a bit different than most Amish novelists. She writes a story that is truly sensitive, passionate and adds some slightly edgy romance to add some spice. However, despite this "edge", her messages are deeply Christian and spiritual. She describes what a man and a woman (who are deeply in love and are truly meant to be together ) what they feel and experience in their relationship. She writes a story about 2 young adults who are thrown together by chance~~one Amish and one English . The reader experiences how a remote Appalacian Amish community handles difficult situations in a different way that one might expect. You see how faith, respect and love shines and prevails throughout this story. And, we observe one young man's journey to find himself and his "True Father".I really loved this book and I would highly recommend it to others who thoroughly enjoy reading Amish Fiction.

A sweet story that will hold your interest!
I loved the characters of Jude Lyons and Mary King. He, an Englischer, came to Ice Mountain to research a book. Jude is a college professor and an expert in Amish Studies. Mary was his helper. Though his transgression is slight, Mary's family feel she has been compromised. Jude and Mary are forced to marry. Jude is determined that it will be a brief marriage in name only. Mary already cares for Jude. She wants to make their relationship into a true marriage. It is interesting when the pair leave Ice Mountain for the modern world. She seems naive but Mary is strong and speaks from the heart. There are many twists and turns in their story. Through it all, there is knowledge and faith that God is directing the paths of both Jude and Mary. Once he returns to Ice Mountain, Jude slowly learns that the Amish way and the Christian life give insight that he has always yearned for. The romantic scenes are handled sweetly and tastefully.

SIMPLE LIFE VERSUS VERY WORLDLY LOVE CONQUERS ALL
This was very different from all the books I have ever read about the Amish, you will really enjoy this story if you like to read about these wonderful people who love God and all people. The only really nasty lost character is Ted Loyd, Judes father. He has a lot to learn about how to love and raise a child, maybe a grandchild will wake him up before it is to late. I am looking forward to reading the next book. I would highly recommend this book to all who like to read about the power of God and His love for all.

Interesting, good story
The book was well written with an interesting story. I only gave it 3 stars as I was disappointed in all the sensual love making. Yes, I am grateful they were married, but I don't need all the intimate details. If that's something you like to read, fine. But I was very put off by it. If the rest of this author's books are this explicit, I will not be buying them. It's too bad because the writing was very good.

but this is the worst yet. This is OK
I have problems with this story. Kelly Long just doesn't do the research that she needs to do to show an honest look at an Amish life. Jude and Mary could not get married unless either she left the faith or he became Amish. Neither thing seems to have happened and they were allowed to have a "marriage of convenience." This would not happen in the Amish faith. They take marriage vows too seriously. I've seen Kelly Long's research flawed in others of her books, but this is the worst yet. This is OK, but only OK. I''m not sure I want the next book in the series.

Amish Bride of Ice Mountain CHRISTIANS BEWARE
In my opinion this story was somewhat unbelievable from an Amish perspective. It felt as though the author had written a story more suited under the category of soft porn - older experienced, intelligent, wealthy, handsome man who having taken sexualised petting too far for the older brother's sensitivities (who was quite the voyeur) having watched and seen enough to convince their father that marriage, albeit to an unconscious Englisher was called for.The strong sexual imagery throughout the book was inappropriate for the readers attracted to Amish simplicity and moral Christian values. As a soft porn novel it was corny. As a contemporary novel it was out of touch. As an Amish novel it was crass and not authentic. As an inspirational Christian work it was on the wrong side of grey.Beware parents of teens this IS NOT a sweet story of innocence.I'm very disappointed to have paid for entertainment that would make even Jesus blush!PLEASE publishers and promoters do your job with your consciences. Don't awaken innocents of any age by such demoralizing evocative imagery. Please ensure books are promoted in the correct genre. This book was lacking on many levels.Amanda Kitteridge-Stote. 58 years of age.

Very Disappointed
Usually books of this genre are clean reading. This one is not. I ordered Book One and Book Two at the same time and I am disappointed in both. Will not buy again from this author.
