Mousetrap Car Kit, 2-Pack – Build 2 Mousetrap-Powered Cars, Hands-On Physics STEM Project Kit for Classrooms, Ages 8+

This was a pretty fun kit to do with my son. He likes engineering and STEM related stuff, and since there were two included in this kit, my son and I could both do them together. This was a fun project, but be sure to have a decent pair of pliers on hand when you start because you will need to remove a couple parts from the mouse trap. Its nothing hard to do. You're just removing the bait lever and hold stick (basically just pulling a couple oversized staples). It was neat to see the mousetrap turn into a kinetic motion drive. Spawned some fun discussions. But first we raced. We adjusted the tie point on the sticks and watched the difference in relative transferred speed and torque. It was a fun project with a lot of fun learning points. Aside from the pliers to pull the wood staples on the trap, the assembly went together pretty easily. My son did not need any help with assembling his (he was 11 when he got this). Assembly was fairly straight forward. And total build time was relatively quick. I think we both finished inside of 30 minutes and were racing. It was a fun project, engaging, and led to good learning points and discussions. I call that a great win. The parts were good quality. This works well for a lesson plan to demonstrate concepts in real life.

I ordered the kit of 10 for a class project. I made kits of all the parts and distributed to students only to realize after that the kit didn't come with any of the metal axles needed for assembly. Very frustrating! I returned the first kit and ordered a replacement kit which did have all of the parts.

This kit looks like it will be fun to put together, but I haven't tried it out yet. It comes with most of the items that you need as well as a colorful illustrated instruction sheet. Aside from the included items, though, you will need things like scissors, and pliers, to properly assemble it. Note that there is a warning about small parts, so be cautious using it around pets or little kids. If someone is very sensitive to the smell of unfinished wood, this might not be a good choice for them. One thing I did notice when I looked through the kit was that one of the pre-punched cards had a missing piece that was loose in the box, so be aware that there might be small pieces that came loose in transit.

But for an educational project, it does exactly what it’s meant to do—help kids experiment, think creatively, and learn through hands-on building. Overall, this is a great STEM kit for introducing kids to early engineering concepts while keeping it fun and engaging.

Got this mousetrap car kit for the kids, and it turned out to be way more fun than I expected. It’s one of those things that keeps them busy and gets them thinking at the same time. Putting the cars together was a great hands-on activity. It’s not too complicated, but still enough of a challenge to make it interesting. We definitely had some trial and error figuring out how to make the cars go farther, which was honestly the best part. Once it’s built, watching the car move using just the mousetrap is really cool. It naturally leads into talking about basic physics without it feeling like a lesson. The materials are decent, and having two kits is great—either for siblings or just building and testing different designs. Overall, a really fun and engaging activity. Perfect if you want something that mixes learning with play without feeling boring.

This mouse trap car stem kit was the worst. It arrived all in one box with little instruction. A few pieces were broken. It is extremely cheap and of poor quality, we couldn’t even put it put it together. I do not recommend this.
