So I will preface by saying, this is my first bait casting rod (but i've used many spinning setups), and as such I can't really comment on how well it does compared to other bait casting rods. What I can say is that for $50-60 dollars, everything you get feels quality enough to be enjoyable to use as a beginner. Overall everything does feel built to a budget price point, for example the reel has a fairly budget plastic feeling exterior, but then again so do many reels priced higher than this. The rod also does not inspire me with great confidence that it wont snap unexpectedly on me at the wrong moment, but so far it is in one piece. Another slight issue I ran into is that when spooling up the reel I did have the line bunch up a bit considerably toward the middle of the spool rather than being even across, and that was with a bit of effort put into guiding the line back and forth so, you may experience that, but overall it does not seem like it will have a tremendous impact on use to me. Reel was pretty easy to disassemble, but I was initially confused as the instructions do not explain well how to take off the side plate, but basically it shifts downward and sortof twists off if you simply apply downward pressure to the front/top of the plate, giving you access to the spool. Action of reeling in the line is not the smoothest thing I have ever felt, but it's workable. Reel seat is typical plastic which could definitely be improved. But all this has to be taken into consideration with the very low price point, and for me that makes this combo a win overall. I very much like that the rod specs are medium power, fast action, 8-14lb line (I am using 15lb and I think that should be okay). It is also setup for 1/4-5/8oz lures so, it's not going to be ideal for throwing a single small spinner for panfish or something like that, but if you were to double them up or something that'd probably be fine or just go for a slightly heavier jighead/lure. Medium term update: I have noticed after a couple times out, that the rings which line the guides on the rod are made of a very soft material, which took a fair bit of damage simply from spooling up the reel, so it would be nice if that were not the case, but at this price point, I can still recommend the item overall.

This is a quality rod and reel here. Are you going to win any competitions with it, probably not but you can tell its not cheaply made. I got the 6 foot version and it's true to size. Casts easy and even easier to reel up. Like others mentioned, the pole is a 2 piecer so if that's not your thing then it might not be for you. I do like the color though cause it sticks out a little and makes it a tad bit easier for me to grab. If you have a little one that you want to get into fishing, then for the price this would be a good one. It definitely has some quirks but none aren't able to be overcome. Its a solid reel for the price but don't expect it to be lasting forever.
