Review: Great Replacement for Meze Liric (Gen 1) Earpads - Preface: Everyone's ears are different and all headphones are different, so you're experience may be different than mine. Great replacement for Meze Liric (Gen 1) earpads. Just required some double stick VHB tape cut to size. Got these, along with standard sheepskin and angled sheepskin earpads from Brainwavz, and the Dekoni Meze Liric replacement earpads and did a comparison before choosing which one worked best for me. Keep in mind, for me, the Meze Liric's with the original earpads always seemed to tease me and get just on the edge of giving me goosebumps when listening to some of my favorites, so I was looking for something that pushed the Liric's just a bit further. The Brainwavz standard sheepskin and the Dekoni earpads both generated good lows, but some of the mids seemed to be a little soft at times and some of the treble (specifically hi-hats) were a bit spicy for my taste. The Brainwavz angled sheepskin earpads were about on par with the original (non-angled) Liric earpads, but they just didn't push the Liric's any further. However, I did feel like they added just a bit more to the soundstage. So those might be a better option for gaming or movies. I'm not sure if it's the perforation or the seal created by the gel layer, but these pushed the sound of the Meze Lirics just enough that I would choose them over factory replacements any time. First time in a long while I got goosebumps while listening to my sound test playlist. As far as the "cooling" gel layer goes, it's pretty gimmicky. They are cool for the first 10 minutes or so, but with closed back headphones, there's no airflow and they're going to get toasty no matter what you do. Open back headphones might allow these to stay cooler slightly longer, but I wouldn't get them just for the cooling gel. For anyone in the market for replacement earpads, I would highly recommend doing as I did and get several different pairs to make sure you get the right ones for your headphones or your ears. Review: Good but.. - Cools for a bit but gets warm quickly. Seems to be good quality otherwise
