Thank Goodness!
These could not have been easier to install. I already had first alert alarms that were hard wired with the 9v battery backup and those suckers would go off beeping at 2 am on the regular because it drained the batteries. I was sick of being woken up at all hours by the beeping! So the model with the adapter was fantastic because all I had to do was unplug the old ones and plug into the new ones. So incredibly simple! And now I won’t have to worry about that darn ear-piercing beep for 10 years. Love it!! I should have done this way earlier.

First Alert from now on. They made it super easy to install
Easily replaced our expensive Kidde smoke detectors purchased just before Covid. They went off every time I opened the oven door and once when when grilling on the patio. Went through all 4 Kidde’s in the 1st floor location. This time bout two First Alert rated much higher than the Kidde and has been up for about a month now with no false alarms. Big sigh of relief! Just ordered two more to replace our upstairs bedroom smoke detectors.Very pleased with how easy they made the install easy. The mounting plate had multiple configurations, so we did not need to re-install the screws. Also provided 3 wire/plug configurations so no need to require for the new plug. Had first one up in 5 minutes whereas the Kidde took about 30 min. because we had to replace wiring.First Alert is much more user friendly and they make it easy to replace competitor brands with First Alert. Will update at later time if we run into any problems. For now we highly recommend First Alert!

Easy replacement for 12-year-old First Alert units
Being able to remove the old First Alerts units by unplugging one connection, plugging in the new unit, and installing into the exiting ceiling bracket made this an easy replacement for older units, hard-wired with battery backup. Replacement was likely overdue, as the units started beeping randomly even with new 9-volt batteries. All six units in our two-story (plus basement) townhome are connected and 'talk' to each other. Which provided a bit of concern after all units were replaced because one was doing intermittent 'chirping' every ten or so minutes, but after an hour all quieted down and hasn't happened since (were installed six weeks ago). I don't know if there is learning process involved but almost seemed so. Note that these units do not have replacement batteries but instead a built-in battery that is to last for 10 years. One minor downside is that I now have several new/like new 9-volt batteries that I don't know how I'll use up.

Batteries did not last
I wasn't the one that installed these, but after taking them down to change the batteries, it looks like they are fairly straightforward. I bought 6 of these and installed them in November of 2020. on 1/10/24 at 3:19 a.m., the alarm went off for about 10 seconds, just enough to raise my adrenalin level to atomic and prevent me from going back to sleep for the rest of the night. The unit shut itself off and there was no apparent reason for the alarm. The batteries were supposed to last 10 years but it had only been a little over 3 years. My first thought was to see if I had a bad battery, so I tried to open the battery drawer to see what kind to order. Could not get it open for the life of me. After much swearing and a search online, I found a helpful video posted by another customer that explained these units have a locking pin that prevents opening the battery drawer. In order to remove the locking pin, you need to peel back the self-stick label on the back of the unit to expose the head, then pry it out with a very small screwdriver. Only then can you open the battery drawer. This is cray-cray (do people still say cray-cray? I'm 72 and may be out of touch). Since one battery was bad, I have to assume others may be as well, so I'm replacing all 6 of them at $12.50 a pop. The moral of the story is, remove the locking pins and check the batteries before you install these units.

Perfect Replacement
The Smoke Alarms in my house were 20 years old. I started to have some random alarms from time to time and even 4am, so knew it was well past time to replace them. The ones I had were Model BRK 4120B interconnected and 9 volt battery. The reviews I had read said newer units had a mounting ring that was a bit smaller than the old ones and left a ring that you had to paint. My experience with these new ones was that the new ones were slightly larger, so no problem at all covering the old area on ceiling. I only had to loosen the old mounting plate, then replace old with new, then install the alarm. The only negative thing I can saw so far is that the battery door is looked upon receipt. That is because it is a 10 year battery and they feel you have no need to open it. The clear cellophane that you need to pull to activate the new battery was not that easy to pull out. I went ahead and unlocked the battery door to pull it out without feeling like I was going to pull the insides out. Minor issue as once activated, push test button to make sure it works on battery, then just plugged in old wiring connector, turn and lock into place into new ring and done. Wish the rest of my projects were this easy.

Perfect replacement.
Replaced ten of the older versions from 2005, new house. Many were dysfunctional after being here almost 18 years. Test your old smoke detectors!! These new ones were incredibly easy to unplug the current hardwired versions into these new ones. All work excellently on testing.

Didn't get what I ordered
"Convenient adapter plugs makes it easy to replace existing hardwired alarms without needing to rewire"My order is missing these adapter plugs and I have no way of getting the right item or a refund.
