It has the worst odor coming off of it! Pass!
This silicone bread mold is designed to make baking multiple loaves easier with its flexible, non-stick construction and perforated design for more even heat circulation. In theory, it should help with consistent baking results and easy removal of bread without sticking or tearing. However, the strong odor you experienced is a common complaint with some lower-quality silicone bakeware, especially right out of the package. While it’s supposed to be food-grade, that initial smell can be really unpleasant and may require multiple deep washes and heating cycles to reduce. Overall, it’s a functional baking tool in design, but the quality control—especially the odor—can be hit or miss and definitely affects the experience.

A new "must-have" for my kitchen. Very useful, and they can be cut down to size.
I'll start with the size: these are way too big for my toaster oven, but can be resized (read: "cut") with scissors. I created a two-loaf and three-loaf mold from one of the fivers, and tested it with some Rhodes frozen bread dough. I've never used a silicone baking mold before. I was amazed. The bread lifted straight out, putting every non-stick baking pan in my kitchen to shame. And the bottoms of the loaves had this fine mesh texture to them that was identical to what I see on the bottoms of breads I get from the local bakery. So THAT's how they do it. I learned something! I set the molds atop a pizza screen (another recent must-have, different story) because they're kind of limp without support, but that's not an issue. Any cookie sheet or baking tray will work.
