Readable and complete (except for 22lr and air gun)
This is a great book for anyone involved in long range shooting. The text is readable, without getting too technical, but the detailed formulas are provided in the back if you want to do your own calculations. Includes a CD with a ballistic solver, and all sorts of tables providing measured data on common center fire bullets. One limitation is that small caliber (22lr, air gun) ballistics are barely mentioned. I know the author is working on that - can't wait.

Must have book for the long range, or prospective long range, marksman
This is an excellent book if you want to understand a bullet's flight and become a better shot at long range, like Camp Perry or in F Class matches. It contains a complete course in external ballistics written in plain English. The layman can understand it; there are some equations included but you do not have to be a mathematician to understand his explanations. Bryan includes a disc with a computer program that will do all the calculations for you, so you do not have to be a programmer to use what he teaches either. What I find most about the book is that it is well laid out. It starts out with a solid introduction and then devotes a well-written explanation of each factor affecting a bullet's flight in its own chapter. Again, the explanations are easily understood, and not just by an engineer or physicist. To top it off, Bryan includes actual test data for widely used bullets for long range shooting. This is test data, not data made up to enhance a product's sales. You can use it to help make a better selection of the bullet you need for the shooting you plan to excel at. And, this data is on the disc along with the program. All in all, I highly recommend this book for anyone aspiring to shoot at long range.

FINALLY, COMPLEX BULLET BALISTICS ARE CLARIFIED! GREAT VALUE, GREAT REFERENCE!
This book sheds alot of light on ballistics in general and especially for long range shooting over 300 yards. The author clears up general confusion over bullet BC's. There are 2 generally accepted BC catagories ... G1 and G7. the G1 BC is meant for use with the older military type bullets and other similar shaped bullets (with shorter bearing surfaces, flat bases and a pointy to rounded nose). The G7 BC should be used for modern long range designed bullets with boat tails and slender ogives. The author make it abundantly clear that using the wrong BC will reduce shooting accuracy quite significantly. He also goes into a good discussion on other factors that affect bullet trajectory such as atmospheric conditions, spin drift, gyroscopic stability and other effects. The science is fairly detailed but understandable. He takes a very complex subject and reduces it to something most shooters can comprehend. However, the book requires concentration and plan on several hours of reading. He also includes and extensive reference in the last half of book to ballistic characteristics of most modern bullets from most manufactures. This is a major reference resources for reloaders and all shooters. Lastly, the book includes a software disc which has a ballistics program which I believe to one of best programs I've seen. This program can be loaded onto your laptop and taken to the shooting range or on hunting trips. It is comprehensive and easy to use.Overall and I very pleased that I purchase is book, and would recommend it to anyone.

Best Book For Serious Long Range Shooting
Long range shooting requires skills and knowledge that differ from other forms of rifle competition. This book has all the practical technical information you need to start shooting. The key is "practical" information. Yes, it is filled with graphs and has some equations for calculating ballistics under varying circumstances. However, the gems of practical knowledge are unequaled in any other book I've read on this subject, and I've read nearly all I could find. There are definitive answers here; is it better to try to calculate wind effect on a bullet, or work to obtain the best overall cartridge ballistics for your particular rifle? And obviously, how do you calculate ballistics for component combinations for your rifle? This is not a book for beginners. If you have never shot a centerfire rifle, better to learn the basics first. Most of all, this is not a book to simply read from cover to cover. It is a guide and reference to keep for as long as you shoot. If you only buy a single book on this subject, this is the one to get.Full disclosure: I get nothing for writing this review. I am not affiliated in any way with anyone who associated with this book.

Applied Ballistics For Long-Range Shooting 2nd Edition
Good info for long range shooting. This has more usable info than his book titled "Accuracy and Precision For Long Range Shooting". All of Bryan Litz's books are informative but the modeling will make for a hard read. The only thing that I didn't like about purchasing this book for my Kindle was that I didn't get the CD that has the Applied Ballistics software. If you purchase the hard copy of the book, you will receive the ballistic software with it. I sent Mr. Litz a request for the software but I haven't heard anything from him. I will admit that I purchased his software for my phone several months ago and it is really nice. I'd just like to have the CD so that I can use it on my home computer.

GREAT book and gift idea.
I am in the process of building a precision .300 win mag rifle. I am looking to get into competition shooting. I am new to long range mechanics, and Im one of those guys who wants to learn as much as I can so I bought this book. OMG!!! the first chapter which I believe was on Ballistic Coefficients, was scary.... However as I kept reading, it all came together. This TEXT book is very well organized so far. I have not finished it but should be done in a few days. I like how the author explains everything so it makes sense to a simple brainer like me. How one thing effects the other is amazing to me. I am making a cheat sheet and writing down the formulas that I think I will be using the most, however something tells me that by the time I am through this book, I will know them by memory etc. I am a HUGE gun guy, but was always stupid on the ballistics side of things. There is no doubt that this book will change all that, and I will not only be a better shot for it, but I will also be able to help others as well. Great book.

Must have book for long range precision shooters
Very decent book. I bought it on Kindle and it reads just fine. This is a great book if, like me, you are not afraid of the math. Great explanations of the concepts you hopefully already know work in the field. I am waiting to receive the software so no comment on that. I suspect it will be simple to use though.

Excellent read
I will need to read this through a couple of times to take it all in.
