The price is right, for me, for the Sailor Fountain Pen
You gotta like fountain pens and learn how to service the maintenance that ultimately will be required. But as for the large Sailor FP I like the way it flows for writing. I would recommend its purchase if you’re into fountain pens. Before I used the pen I did a pen flush and so far the ink flow has been good, even starts right off laying down ink. O’ and the price was more than right and that is why I bought the pen as compared to other pen dealers.

An excellent everyday pen at a bargain price
I have been using fountain pens for years, and own pens from most manufacturers. This one was priced well below the norm for a gold nib (most in this price range have steel nibs). This pen is silky smooth on paper and lays down a perfect medium line. The ink feed is flawless, and the "large" size (as compared to other, smaller pens in the Sailor line) is a perfect fit for my rather ordinary hand. I would consider this as an ideal starting fountain pen for someone who hasn't written with one before; the ease of using the Sailor and absence of frustrations and glitches will win them over.

Great deal
This pen is a beautiful and eager writer. I use Sailor cartridges and refill them myself. But this pen writes smoothly with a wet line and is really outstanding. The M nib looks to me as a true medium. Wish there were more colors to choose from, but the classic black with gold combo is classic.

Nice pen. No converter though
This is a pretty nice pen. The nib is a bit scratchy (it has "feedback", as they say), but the ink flows well. It didn't come with a converter, which surprised me.

It's not exactly like any other fountain pen
Precious resin and cheap plastic look and feel a lot alike. This attractive pen is very light in weight, so much so that my perception of the black material from which the body of the pen is made is that it is thin. When I pick up a Montblanc Meisterstück 146, which is closer in size to the Sailor 1911L than is the larger MB 149 fountain pen, the feel of the MB precious resin seems different. The MB pen feels (or at least causes the impression that it is) thicker and heavier than the 1911L. Some people may prefer the lighter feel of the Sailor.Beyond the basic black body of the 1911L, there are some bits of metal trim that are plated in gold. There are small bands on the body of the pen and on the cap, and there is a larger engraved golden belt that distinguishes the cap of the pen. Precise clean lines and clear-cut detailed engraving characterize these parts. The metal of which these items are made does not add anything perceptible to the weight of the pen. It still seems light. The real distinction of this Sailor 1911L fountain pen is the 21-karat gold nib. The feel of this nib is legendary. It is smooth. Probably as smooth as any fountain pen nibs that have ever slid across paper. While I personally wish that the 1911L pen had more heft, this nib is the real star element of the entire pen. Among the pens I own, there are a few with nibs as smooth as this Sailor 1911L nib, but none is smoother; and certainly none was so smooth right out of the box.If someone wants a medium-size, light-weight, traditional looking black fountain pen that has a nib almost beyond belief in its smoothness, the Sailor 1911L should be toward, if not at, the top of that person's list. Moreover, even with a 21-karat gold nib, this pen is affordable (it's not cheap)—in fact, I would probably rank it as one of the best, if not the best, buy for a world-class fountain pen that one can find.

exquisite writing intstrument
This is an amazing pen, especially if you like the Sailor feedback and if you don't mind refilling ink after writing 15-20 pages. The balance, grip in hand, weight and overall feel is great for small-to-medium hands. I haven't tried Sailor's 14k or steel nibs, but this nib is out of this world, at least for me. I have used Pilot Custom 823, Pelikan M800 and few other good pens who design/develop their nibs in-house, but this pen stands out for me. The writing is good, consistent without any hard-start or skipping, regardless of the ink or paper used. I would highly recommend it to anyone who uses fountain pens on daily basis.

Dream pen
The size and weight of this pen is ideal for someone that likes a big but not oversized pen, combined with a super smooth nib that still feels controlled. The feedback is not scratchy but rather the ability to slightly feel the paper beneath the nib. Wet without being overly so. If you enjoy the feel of a Pilot V7 rollerball pen, you will love this pen. It is exquisite. Only downside is no converter is included, but that’s a cheap fix.Getting this pen feels like I went to Ollivander’s and was chosen by my “wand!”

My hands had never used a smoother pen, period.
I had done infinite research before buying this pen and I was worried whether I had made a good decision in buying the 21k nib, I mean it was on the costlier side. All my apprehensions vanished in thin air the moment I penned the first words with this beauty. Straight out of the box, this pen writes smooth. The flow is superb. I don't know why some people said that it isn't too good for some characters. This pen is for writing and not calligraphy. I can say that you cannot go wrong with this 21k beauty. Glad I made that purchase. My opinion might change in some time if the pen cracks or plays some mischief but as far as writing goes this is as good as it gets.
