2 Port USB Motherboard Header Adapter (USBMBADAPT2)

This part is really helpful for FREENAS or other file server setups where you have a usb flash drive as your boot disk. That is the main utility for this product but it also has other utilizations as well. I have one installed on my HT/Gaming PC. It permenantly houses my wireless receiver for my logitech mouse and keyboard. I was a little worried about interference from my case (HAF XB) but it proved to be unfounded. I will say that when I had my wireless headphones connected internally there was some static so I moved it back outside the case. I just purchased a bluetooth receiver and will install that internally and see what happens. If you want to install a USB receiver or drive internally then this is a great product for you. I have an ASUS board and this thing installed just fine. It took a bit of force to shove it onto the header but it connected fine. It also provided ample room for me to install two devices in it without a problem (someone mentioned concern in another product that the "stacked" ports used in this product would interfere with each other, that has not been my experience.

As I was setting up an unRAID server (which runs off a USB flash drive), I wanted a solution that would allow me to mount the flash drive internally to prevent someone from accidentally removing the flash drive. I found other products but those all had long finicky cables (and there are plenty of those in my server already). This is much more compact and works without any issues so far. A couple of minor points: (1) since the USB ports are on one side of the PCB, I suggest inserting the USB device/cable before inserting the entire adapter into the motherboard. Otherwise, the stress you place on the adapter while inserting the USB device/cable may make the adapter flex around the connection between the PCB and the motherboard connector. (2) the little "wings" of the PCB on the sides of the adapter *might* make plugging in nearby motherboard connections more difficult, although this would vary based on motherboard. I had no problems with my motherboard (Asus B450-F Gaming), but I realize this could be an issue for others. As with many StarTech products, I don't imagine this is necessary for most people. But for those times when you need a solution to a niche problem, it is usually StarTech that has exactly what I need.

This is an excellent little device that has worked for me on various motherboards. Old ones, new UEFI baords, etc. This is perfect for those looking to install a PFSENSE, FREENAS or other type system that requires a flash type device internally mounted to prevent it from accidentally being pulled or knocked out. It is not flexible, bendy or wimpy. It is solid and seems like it will last a long time as long as you do not continuously mess with it. I did notice that some motherboards had a very tight fit while others allowed it to slide right in or be removed more easily. In other words, your mileage may vary depending on your mobo! Also, very excellent option if you just want hidden internal storage for any number of reasons. I only gave it 4 stars for one reason - it is open and exposed. I would definitely like to see this product have some sort of plastic shell to guard from contact shorting. Otherwise it is a fine piece of kit. I would also like to see this be sold in packs of 2 or even 5.

Great idea, terrible design. I use internal USB ports for a specialized hardware key for software. The old computers we used had a standard USB plug on the motherboard, the new one's don't, so this device saved the day. I took away two stars for a glaring issue though. The plug on this device is very short. It only fits 1/2 way down the connector on the motherboard, so it's extremely loose. I have to use hot glue to hold it in place. I have to ship these machines after installing this device (along with everything else needed.) and as loose as the plug is, it would definitely fall out during shipping. I'd also love to see this completely finished, in a plastic casing without the "wings" on the sides.

Perfect if you want to mount hardware that used external USB internally, I use old computers as a hobby and I wanted an internal floppy drive in my modern PC, using a USB adapter for floppy drives and this product and the setup works perfectly.

Worked perfectly for mounting two flash drives inside of the case. Doesn't block the plug next to it and is short and light enough that I'm not worried about it sagging or falling out of the socket. If you're looking to setup a small server with a linux flash drive as it's boot device, I would highly recommend this.

I have an older mother board that I'm using to run CentOS and I wanted to keep my spinning discs for storage. This header is exactly what I needed. I recommend using SanDisk Cruzer Fit http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00812F7O8/ as a boot drive due to it's small size. It won't mess with the air flow in your case. Most operating systems will easily fit on 16GB which is great, when purchased together you only spend ~$20+shipping. In my case I bought two flash drives and set them up in MDADM RAID 1 so I don't have to worry too much about losing my boot drive.

I very much wanted this to be my solution for my Thermaltake Case and Asus Motherboard as teh Case had an external USB Male cable that needed an external female fitting which my motherboard does not have internally. The motherboard does however have the intenal pin connections for USB 1.0/2.0. That led me to order this adapter with high hopes. Upon receiving the part, much to my chagrin, the female pin carriage of the adapter did not fit into the male socket of the motherboard. Not sure how much is to blame on Startech or Asus. Being that Asus is a very recognized brand, I was very disappointed that this adapter did not fit.

Perfect little gadget to fit a flash drive on the inside of your PC, if you got a header free on your motherboard. Sits tight and perfectly stable when used with a small flash drive, such as SanDisk Cruzer Fit USB 2.0 Flash Drive . I'm not sure how it may works, when used with larger flash drives. I'm using is on a Asus B150M-PLUS D3 Motherboard without any problems.

got it to set it up in my home server, unraid needs to be run from usb pendrive which was outside the case ,now is safe inside and no probs at all.

C'est du StarTech.com, j'ai toujours eu les mêmes reflexions à propos de leurs produits. Ils sont excellent, y'a pas de soucis, bien emballé etc. Mais alors par contre, ça reste souvent trop chère pour ce que c'est. Personnellement j'aurais tendance à conseiller d'attendre des réductions.
