An Absolute Treasure
I was in need of a new saw that would replace an older 12" Ryobi chop saw (toy). I also wanted to eliminate the remaining nagging need for a less accurate radial arm saw. I had already replaced the need for overhand dados with a good router and the needs for most finish work with a highly accurate sled and fence on my table saw and needed something that could perform as a chop saw but also had the depth to crosscut a decent depth for stairs, flooring and really wide trim and finish pieces that ould be awkward to cut on the table saw no matter the setup. I have not noticed ANY of the problems mentioned by some reviewers and the rather uniform form of those complaints leads me to believe some of them at least may be paid guerrilla commenters. The saw was checked right out of the box with a dial gauge and was dead on. The factory blade was not bad actually. It cuts cleanly as a general purpose crosscut blade but will obviously not last as long as a higher quality blade will or cut quite as cleanly as a finer toothed blade will but it cut through a set of 2 x 12 pressure treated for decking stairs very well; it also cut through some clear grade pine shelving without splintering the edge of the cut. I will still change the blade for really fine stuff. Also the saw didn't seem to bog down in the least going through the heavy pressure treated wood. The XPS system is a freaking dream to use and such a vast improvement over any of the laser systems I've seen or used. If you bring the blade down almost to the wood you get a razor fine line where the saw will cut so you know exactly where the blade is going - no more adding a 1/16" or an 1/8" and the gravy is that you don't need to spin the blade up while your face is closer to the wood and blade to line the cut up because the XPS system is independent of the blade - just remember to turn it off when you're done using the saw. or you'll kill the long lived LEDs before their time and waste expensive electricity. The dust bag is a joke as all dust bags have always been on all miter saws since they first came out. You can probably hook it up to a shop vac and be fine. The blade does quite a powerful job of chucking the saw dust out of the cut area giving it some momentum going into the dust chute. I have been hooking mine up to my roll around 1hp Grizzly dust collector though and love the performance and would say the claims about the dust collection of the hood behind the blade of this saw are not very much exaggerated. In fact I made a few cuts through some of the scrap 2 x 12 material without the dust collector or dust bag and received almost no dust in front of the saw. (It will shoot it out about 15-20 feet behind the saw though) I used a 1 1/2" to 4" Fernco coupler (cost like 4 bucks) on mine and a 6" length of 4" PVC scrap (the white stuff) to connect this to the 4" hose from the dust collector and it works like a charm. The bearings. Many are the whinings about the bearings and the accuracy at full extension - especially when using the back fence to be able to cross cut 16". The first thing is that they stick or are hard to move. The first couple of passes out of the box and the bearings did in fact seem a bit stiff. There is little to no lube on the bars right out of the box as the bearings have not been slid over them. A few passes and they loosened up a bit; a little machine oil and they flew. The only time they seemed to bog after that was when I was making some test passes through scrap with no bag or dust collector hooked up to see how much dust was actually being captured by the blade hood. I'm sure this just accelerated what would happen slowly anyway but dust caked on the bearing did succeed in bogging up the glides. A simple wipe down followed by a few squirts of machine oil and I was back in business. That is simple, common sense maintenance though and shouldn't be held as a ding against the saw. The other popular complaint is the accuracy at the full 16" cut depth. I made and installed the sub fence by following the instructions in the manual and made some test cuts. It bears to mention that 16" wide pieces of lumber of any length can be quite unwieldy and should be clamped before cutting - both for accuracy and for the love of our fingers. There was less than a 0.002" difference between the near side and the far side of the cut. That is far, far less than 1/64th of an inch and not noticeable in any finish work and I dare say a good bit closer to perfect than any of the cuts made on mass produced furniture. I've since used the saw to make 16" deep serving table made up of glued up pine panels and it is dead on square and level. As far as I am concerned that is near enough to perfect as makes no difference and about as close as you can get with any woodworking equipment. I love this saw and see many years of use in it if taken care of properly. I did find it kind of amusing that the Ryobi branded stand I had purchased for my older Ryobi 12" miter saw required me to make an adapter plate out of plywood to fit the Ryobi saw to the clamps that hold it on the stand but the Dewalt fit right on the same clamps with no issue like they were made for it.

Good so far but keep these things in mind
I'm a diyer, not a contractor or trim carpenter, so here's my prospective with that slant: Good: 1. Well packaged with Styrofoam in a thick box. Some reviews complained about that- not sure why. 2. Mine came with the two extended supports on either side and the useless gizmo to lock pieces down while cutting. 3. It truly appears new. I was super nervous about getting someone's return or a refurb based on other reviews, but my saw appears to have been unopened and straight from the factory. It's sad I have to be excited about this but you really can't trust amazon. Check your saw closely. 4. The 60 tooth blade cuts like butter. 5. The dust seems to go to the back rather than all over. 6. For my purposes, the blade is square from the factory. 7. The added safety of having the small trigger on the hand press to turn the saw on is a little annoying to get used to but I have kids so I love that addition. No one will be able to turn this on just by squeeze and pull like most miter saws out there. Bad/considerations: 1. Big af. Need approxiamately 4ft depth and 3 ft wide, another 3 ft tall space to house this thing. Even more to accommodate a miter stand. I highly recommend something mobile. This saw is just too big for a stationary workstation. 2. It's heavy. Around 60 lbs. I don't care because I'm not taking it anywhere but just to let someone know who might. 3. Dust collection. When I set up my adaptor and shot vac to the saw, it sucks the attached dust flaps closed and essentially makes have a vac useless. I make less of a mess without my vac ironically. Still have to figure this out. 4. The saw came with the bevel locked at 10 degrees or so. This freaked me out, thinking it was horribly out of square until I realized this and set it back to 0. 5. Be prepared for the jolt- or kickback whatever you want to call it when you turn it on. This saw is powerful and literally jumps a little in my hand before I got used to it. My old Hitachi never did that. 6. The light system that seperates this model from the cheaper 779 model is ...just okay. I prefer a laser because it's quicker. I must spend more time now checking cuts now and time matters. 7. Cost: personally I think it's overpriced for having been out for years and I'm paying for the name. But it is very solid and I hope to get many years of use from it. Overall I don't regret this purchase. Being able to cut bigger stock is invaluable. If something happens to this saw, I'll update my review.

Very, Very Nice Miter Saw
The Dewalt 780 was a great purchase. I got it at an excellent sale price around Black Friday so the cost was comparable to the 779 model which is essentially the same unit minus the XPS light...but the light is worth every penny. Unlike laser lines on some units which are notorious for going off kilter, the XPS light is mounted behind the blade and the shadow it casts is your cut line. Fool proof every time. Keep in mind you also may need to calibrate the blade. Mine was spot on 90 degrees to the fence from the factory but the bevel needed some tweaking which was actually a very simple bolt adjustment. Zero wobble on the blade which was also a nice surprise, and it performed great. Little tear out with the Dewalt 60 tooth blade on typical lumber yard pine, but the cuts were nice and smooth and spot on 90 degrees on both the vertical and horizontal, triple checked with a precision square. This thing went through some recently split Walnut, and some of the pieces were pretty big, it went right through them. Only thing I don't like is the screw clamp, they need to rethink that one, it just takes forever, and I definitely wish there was more of a base plate for wider things like uneven slabs I'd normally shim which can be jenky, but I can make some sort of an extension piece for that. Overall, super happy with the unit. I wish my table saw from another manufacturer was this trouble free.

Love it!!
Although my old Craftsman compound mitre saw still works, I need a way to cut wider boards (wider than the craftsman 8" max) without trying to flip the board or cut on the table saw. This Dewalt at 16" cut depth handles a much broader range of board widths and is very accurate. This saw runs much smoother , quieter, and more accurate than my craftsman. Obvious other improvement is the shadow line, which lights up your cut area and shows where the blade will cut. Cuts are easily within 1/64" using the shadow line. The price was decent at the time of $499. I have only a couple of negatives. When you drop the blade down to the cut, position your cutie and hit the trigger, the saw is so powerful that the saw arm jumps down into the wood before you're ready. You just need to make sure that you pull the trigger well above the work piece before bringing it down for the cut. A second negative would be the depth necessary for setting this up on a work bench. I have a 24" deep work bench and it won't fit. You need about 36" bench depth. This is kind of inherent in all the sliding mitre saws though, just a little worse on this one due to the 16" cut depth. I added extra wood to the top of my work bench to accommodate the extra depth if I'm using it on the bench (I also bought the dewalt stand, awesome!) . Other reviews mentioned that the 2 rods that the ball bearings ride on for the sliding motion get gummed up with saw dust. It seems like all these sliding saws use the same method. It slides very smooth for me out of the box. Out of caution and because I only use the sliding about 5 to 10% of the time, I added 1" i.d. conduit insulation to these round rods. It's cheap, only $2.50 for 12', and covers the rods completely, sealing at each end (see pic). They only take a few scones to remove if I need the sliding feature. I cut the pieces 1/8" longer than needed so it would be a snug fit. Overall very happy with this purchase, highly recommend! !

Nice saw
Tried and true saw. Many great features. Mates well with the Dewalt stands. The bad: The saw dust. You would think that after more than 20 years they would do something about that. It just stays on the table. The light is awesome but i am use to a laser line to cut on. But a light on the work surface is nice. Not real portable, very heavy and bulky. But i would still buy again. I have is mounted on the Dewalt wheeled stand.

First impression is good
Ok, usually I'm not one to write reviews until I have used a product. It annoys me those that leave a poor review after only minimal use of a product, most times not really understanding how a product it supposed to work. With this I will make an exception as it is a tool that I will use and want to list what I do and do not like out of the box. This has nothing to do with the use of the product, but more to what I see as compared to what I have used in the past. I occupation is a general contractor, working in most trades involved in construction. This by no means makes me a professional tool tester, merely giving my background as to what I do and how I use my tools. My current miter saw is a 10" Jet slider. I purchased the Dewalt 12" for the need of a 12" miter saw and the Jet is almost $200 more. Pros - Out of the box, and one of the main reasons I purchased this miter saw, is the fact that the miter gauges can be adjusted. Anyone who uses a miter saw knows that the guides on most saw are not adjustable. Overtime the stops can get out of square making your cuts not true. I've owned a few that you had to hold the miter handle tight against the stop to get the cuts right on. Sometimes you couldn't hold it well enough with the lock and had to true it up by hand. This one allows it to be adjusted...BIG plus here! 2nd - it has a nice high back stop for cutting crown molding. Some saw seem to fall just a bit short here, making tall crown cuts difficult, not impossible, but have to work at it to make good clean cuts. 3rd - I like the "Integrated XPS cross cut positioning system" (as per DeWalt) This is a light that actually works. The light is on the blade housing towards the top of the blade, lighting up the saw on both sides, huge plus when working inside. Cons - This isn't a deal breaker for sure, but I wish DeWalt would change the way to change the bevel miter. Having to reach around the back to loosen the handle can get to be a pain. And also having to change the lock from left side to right side...somewhat of a hassle. Again, not a deal breaker, but Jet certainly has them beat here. Anything that saves me time is a big plus, DeWalt misses the mark here and that's really why the 4 star rating. Overall I believe I will like the saw and will update my review when I have had some use after a few months. Update on saw: I have now had this miter saw for over a year now..I still give it 4 stars and really for same reason as I first listed previously. It has plenty of power, after a years worth of use it still cuts square and true. My only wish now is that DeWalt would add a holder for the material hold-down when it isn't being used. It gets in the way when doing a right hand bevel cut and no where to place it on miter stand or saw other than on the ground or hanging from the stand. No big deal, would just be a nice feature.

State of the art!
this tool is more than that its a work of art. It made me look like a pro with perfect precise cuts, SO far im just so impressed. Dewalt has made a joke out of setting this saw and the cart that they made for it, a caveman could do it/1 lol

Perfect Mitre for wood working
This is high quality machine. It came 99% accurate right out of the box. I was also surprised to see that it is 'Made in Italy'. Everything inside looks like it was made for European market. It comes with adjustable speed and the shadow light (an awesome feature to have). Only concern was the import date 08/2023. But i got a very good deal and works perfectly.

Lourd mais utile
Cette scie est lourde, et montée sur un rail dewalt, mis à part comment baisser le bras, mais c'est un outil super génial qui scie des poteaux de 90 mm voire plus. Je le conseille
