Nice upgrade to other cheaper import radios!
Great radio! As an amateur operator I was looking for something a bit better than a UV-5R, but that still was affordable. I'm very happy with this radio. Here is a brief comparison as I own both the TD-H8 and several UV-5Rs. In my opinion (just opinions, I haven't performed tests with instrumentation): This radio has MUCH better receive filtering. The sound is better, and you can hear weak signals better. The transmit is better - I can hit my local UHF repeater MUCH better with this radio (and the included long antenna) than I can from a UV-5R and its long antenna. The menu system is very easy and much like that of a UV-5R. It does have a few features like mic gain, that the UV does not. Of course, the Bluetooth is really great and works with no issues on my iPhone 15. The screen on this radio is fantastic as well. Battery life also seems good! Downsides: 1. The manual that comes with the radio isn't "great". As is frequently the case with these import radios. But you shouldn't have problems getting up and running. 2. The radio doesn't seem to currently support the use of CHIRP programming software. It does have its own software (phone app) that is pretty easy to use. Easier still, you can use their website -- which is pretty "CHIRP-like" and then that will automatically sync down to your phone. Once on your phone, you can push it via Bluetooth to your radio. 2a. I will say you can import a CHIRP file on their website and then save that to your radio. I tried this and it wasn't perfect. It was failing on one of the import lines and the error message was useless at telling me which line was a problem. I ended up importing the file one line at a time until I found the bad line. Once I corrected that it imported. However, it marked every channel to narrow FM. Not sure why... So they have some kinks to work out on the CHIRP import. 3. The manual says you have to disconnect the battery from the radio (or turn the radio off) to charge it. This isn't ideal in some situations but isn't a huge problem as they provide two batteries. So, you can be charging one and using one. I have not yet tried this radio with my digirig lite, and will provide an update if I have issues.

Fantastic Ham Radio – Easy to Program and Great Build Quality! ★★★★★
The TIDRADIO H8 has quickly become my go-to ham radio, and it’s an outstanding choice for both beginners and experienced users. The build quality is impressive—sturdy, durable, and lightweight enough to carry on the go without feeling flimsy. It feels like a premium device at a very reasonable price point. What sets this radio apart is the Bluetooth programming function. It’s a total game-changer! Using the app, I was able to program frequencies in minutes without needing a cable or fumbling with complicated software. The process was incredibly intuitive, making this one of the easiest radios to set up. Performance-wise, the audio is clear and strong, and the reception is excellent. The battery life is another big plus—it easily lasts a full day of use, and the charging dock makes recharging simple and efficient. For the price, the TIDRADIO H8 offers unbeatable value. You’re getting a solid, feature-packed radio that’s easy to program and built to last. I’d highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a reliable and user-friendly ham radio!

White noise when receiving on my unit.
I was really hoping to like this TD-H9. Had all the specs i would want. But it has white noise. 1. Has white noise in the background when receiving. You'll always hear it when someone is talking. Hope it's just the one I received. All my UV-5r minis out perform this model for clarity. This was my only gripe. I would've kept it if this receiving was clear. Programming is a nightmare on the OD app, but doable. Not Chirp compatible yet. Update: TIDRADIO reached out and sent me new firmware and updated OD Master, but unfortunately I had already returned this radio. So they sent me 2 H3-Plus. These are great radios just missing the 10W. Great customer service and fast replies. Too bad I don't have it to try out the new firmware anymore. I would have loved the 10W H9 to test the firmware and if it fixed it. It would've been the best HT yet. IMO.

Great radio I love it
I love this radio because I have both a ham license and a GMRS license. When placed in normal mode, this radio can do both together legally since it is a FCC part 95 radio it has many features that I will probably never use but me at some point. Like the GPS and APRS it has an FM radio and it can be programmed by Blu tooth or on a computer. I prefer using the Free software. To program with my laptop. It’s much easier than fooling with the app. for the price, you really can’t beat it with all the features it has. It has a very nice solid field to it a very nice color screen, but you can run in dual mode or single. Very easy to read the screen outdoors and you can adjust the brightness. I also love the fact that it can be charged on a USB-C cable or using the cradle that comes with it. It is also programmable using just the buttons on the radio, but certain features can only be changed using the computer or Bluetooth app.

Great radio with advanced features and an excellent build quality
This is an excellent radio with great features. I have many radios from Tidradio, and they are all well-made and reliable. They feel heavier and more durable than other brands. The H9 was not compatible with Chirp when I bought it, but I was able to program it manually without an issue.

Great radio for the price.
I have been into GMRS for many years and just got this for my daughter to use. Has very strong signal and is CHIRP compatible for programming quickly. Can hit a repeater 90 miles from my location. Long battery life too.

Great Value, Solid Build, More than just GMRS, High Power.
I just got these as cheap handout units, since I was primarily using the Wouxun KG-Q10G for GMRS. But WOW, these things are growing on me, and even blowing me away. For example, you can unlock these to be a full featured HAM, or even totally unlocked ... all with a few button pushes when turning on. You can always go back to the original GMRS mode, but this offers huge flexibility. Another benefit is the transmit power ... online reports show it can get up to 10W in VHF. If you need some extra punch, these got it. I have been programming from the interface on the radio, but honestly, it can be confusing sometimes, and I would like to try the app/BT connection in the future. One thing I like about these is the button to key up is big and easy to press. So many radios make it harder, I suppose to prevent accidental Tx's. But my wife and I prefer these for the simple "easy to TX" button. Also, these feel well built, good solid and heavy in your hand. I know these are the "v2" variants, and "v3" is already out with slight improvements, but don't hesitate getting these, especially at the discounted price with all the accessories ... including the bigger HAM antenna.

UPDATE TIDRadio corrected the issue.
UPDATE: Jan 28 True to their word, TIDRADIO sent another H8. Out of the box the TX output ROCKS. Problem: I purchased a 2 pack. Tested both with a Surecom 33 and a Tiny SA ultra. First radio I think is great output is 8 to 10 watts (depending on band tested) The other is half that???? I'll cut and paste my interaction with TIDRADIO tech support below, You decide if you'd want to deal with them if you have an issue. ME: Jan 9 Hello I purchased 2 H8 radios. I've tested transmit power on both using a Surecom meter and a Tiny SA ultra. One is great over 8 watts on VHF. The other is barely half that. Tech support: Jan 10, 1:23 AM Hi, please press menu+2 to switch to high power to try. If you have problems, please continue to contact us Jan 10, 1:24 AM Hi, please charge the walkie talkie in a different location before charging it, or charge the battery separately and swap batteries to test it, we need you to rule out if it's a battery issue or a machine issue. Jan 10, 1:25 AM Please ignore this error message.'Hi, please charge the walkie talkie in a different location before charging it, or charge the battery separately and swap batteries to test it, we need you to rule out if it's a battery issue or a machine issue." Me Jan 10, 7:47 PM Hello, thanks for the reply. Both radios were on HIGH when tested. I have charged both batteries using an Anker USB C 120W, 547 Charger, PowerPort III 4-Port Charging Station https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09J1XTLJ6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Both radios display that each battery is fully charged. Thank you Clyde Jan 10, 2024 7:47 PM Do you mean that in high power mode there is still the problem that one of them has more than 8 watts of VHF power and the other has almost none? Jan 10, 2024 9:07 PM Yes, both HTs were set to high power, but it's not almost none. One does 8 watts consistently. The other does 4 or 5 watts. When set to high power. I've tested 3 times now. Thank you Jan 10, 2024 10:22 PM 4 or 5 watts This one H8-GMRS is normal, the other 8 watt, you check the version of the intercom, press menu +42 and let us know. an 11, 2024 11:13 AM Hi again, I’m not at home with the radios right now I will try the menu+42, later today. If I understand correctly the GMRS version should only do 4 to 5 watts. The HAM version does 10 watts So if I want radios that do 10 watts. I need to return these to Amazon and purchase the HAM version. Is that correct? Thanks again Clyde Jan 11, 2024 6:32 PM They both have 230923. Hope that helps. Jan 12, 2024 1:47 AM Hello, I unlocked both radios prior to sending my initial email. They are both enabled on 2 meter, 70 cm and GMRS. Jan 12, 2024 3:55 PM Can the handset that has the low wattage be replaced or would I have to send both back to Amazon and take me chances that both of the replacements have low wattage output? Jan 12, 2024 9:16 PM 1- the low wattage? Is there a problem with the headset? 2- Walkie talkie power problem, you can adjust the power software (see attached) Jan 12, 2024 9:17 PM Please continue to contact us with questions. I'm still waiting for a reply. If this was a single radio with low output. It would be on it's way back to Amazon Update Jan 25: Not changing my rating until I've got the replacement in hand and have tested it. Jan 23, 2024 7:35 PM We apologize.
