I love this scale!!!
I have owned diet scales before but never one that calculates a food's calories at the same time. First and foremost I wanted a scale that was very accurate. Because this one was recommended by well-known weight control programs, I assumed it had to be very accurate and of good quality. And it is. Honestly, prior to receiving the scale, I wasn't sure if the "food counting" aspect would be useful or just an extra feature I would ignore. Now, I don't use my computer diet tracking or calorie counting books at all. I only use this scale. It is by far the best one I've ever owned. I eat a lot of whole foods so this scale is ideal for my diet. It is sooo much faster and easier than either using a calorie book, or the computer diet programs where you keep a computerized food log and have to look up each food, then type in the amount you have measured to get the calories and nutrition info. It is intuitive and super quick to use the code book and measure the food. It is also really helpful to see in real time how many calories a portion is just by placing it on the scale- allowing you to quickly add and subtract amounts of food to get the number of calories you want. (I'm not sure if I'm explaining this right, but you will know what I mean when you use the scale.) It definately beats trying to do it in reverse by measuring the food then looking up the calories. I never thought a scale would inspire me to stick to my diet, but this one has. I actually look forward to measuring my meals with it! Not only has really helped me meet my daily calorie goals, but using the scale has made my diet choices more flexible. And I'm learning alot about the nutrition and portion sizes of the food choices I make. I have not used the more advanced features like entering custom foods or the "additive" feature- it's just faster and easier to me to weigh each food separately then add the calories up myself. (One note- there is a very slight delay when you add an additional amount of food before the calories "update" to the new total- so be sure to give it a second to register before removing your portion from the scale to get accurate counts.) In conclusion, I absolutely love this scale and can't recommend it enough to any one who wants an easy to use, very accurate, and even inspiring way to keep track of your diet.

Great scale for food and small mail, with a 2 year warranty!
I have had this scale for approximately 6 months, and it has been a Godsend. I am a Type 1 diabetic and practice portion control thru carbohydrate (CHO) counting. It has made it so much easier, and accurate than using a measuring cup for my cereal in the morning, and for counting things that I would otherwise have guessed on, such as pretzels. My partner and I even use it when we buy a bulk meat or other foods, and need to divide it into even portions for zipper bags to freeze for later use. It has so many uses, that I even use it to weigh my letters, so I can print my postage at home on the USPS Website, and not even stand in line or fill out forms at the Post Office. You don't even need special labels, you just print on paper and tape it on, putting clear tape on everything except the BARCODE Although if you are going to be using it for this a lot, I would recommend you get the half page Avery labels meant for shipping this way. Also, if you have heavy items, I suggest you get a dedicated postal scale. But for large envelopes and small boxes, it is a FANTASTIC convenience item. Furthermore, I recently had an incident where the scale failed for no apparent reason. I tried replacing the batteries, and doing everything to reset it, but nothing worked. The electronics must just have given out. However, the scale has a long warranty (2 years, "bumper-to-bumper"), so I emailed the manufacturer, and the owner himself, Bill, emailed me and told me not to worry about even sending back the faulty scale, he would get a new scale out to me forthwith. He sent one promptly via FEDEX! You cannot ask for better customer support than that! I do not know if he can do this for everyone, but his customer support via email has been superb, and he backs his product 100%. I investigated many scales when I was searching, including the Salters, because I wanted the ability to store foods for later calculation of CHO, so I did not have to enter the CHO/OZ or GM every time. However, the scales that perform this function are only capable of calculating 1 serving at a time. With the EatSmart scale, you just put your container on the scale, press TARE (to zero it out), throw on a handful of pretzels (Can you tell that I like them?), input the CHO/g or oz. and get the CHO amount. With the Eatsmart scale, you can do this, but NOT with ANY other, and believe me, I researched the heck out of them! The only thing I wish that the EatSmart would do is store food CHO/serving size (OZ or GM) for foods you commonly measure, so that you could recall it later without having to enter it every time you put a food on the scale. By the way, for measuring serving sizes, if you have the GM and OZ serving size, use the GMs, it is more accurate. You can view some video demos of the scale by going to eatsmartproducts dot com / demo dot php [Replace the "dots" with . and remove the spaces.] For what it's worth, I don't even try to use the scale to calculate my CHO. I just use a calculator and put as much food as I want on the scale, divide the grams on the scale (say 326g) by the serving grams (56g) to get a serving number, e.g., 5.8 servings, and then multiply that by the CHO per serving (23g) to get my total CHO amount (~134g CHO) for insulin dosing. (Although the scale does these calculations for you if you enter the serving data, I have not yet learned how, so I stick to my "old" ways.) [Also, as an aside, these numbers are just for demonstration purposes only. I would never eat that many carbs at one sitting!] It is a beautiful scale, just the right size to fit on your countertop, above the microwave, or even a drawer. If you want it to sit out though, it looks great! I cannot say enough good things about this scale. I hope this helps you choose your nutritional scale. Happy hunting!

Highly Recommended
I have owned this scale for over two months, and I love it. I use it everyday. This scale makes figuring out serving sizes for portion control easy. And yes, the convenience of figuring out how many calories is in your food is helpful for counting calories -- or just for a little wake-up call. But, I also use it when I bake. I hate to measure butter. Now, I put my Kitchenaid stand mixer bowl on the scale. Zero-out the tare and weigh my butter. I do this with everything. It is incredible to me how many times a day I pull this scale off of the shelf to weigh something. From using it to make sure I'm putting enough protein powder in my smoothie, to weighing pasta before I cook it, I use this scale at every meal. I even weigh my cereal in the morning. Among the features I like about the EatSmart Digital Nutrition Scale is the ability to easily switch between grams and ounces. I also like the ability to input specific nutrition information that is not provided in scale's program. My only complaint about the scale is that I wish they included more nutritional information for various fruits and vegetables. There are only 69 fruit entries, and only 156 vegetable entries. Now, for those who do not consume a predominately raw, vegan diet this may seem like it should cover everything -- but it does not. Furthermore, there are a lot of repeats for various types of oranges, corn on the cob, lettuce, mushrooms, peppers, and potatoes. This is good. I just wish there were more fruit and vegetable options than meat and dairy options (of which there are 512 entries). I just think that if we're trying to help people clean up their diets we should encourage choosing fresh, raw vegetables and fruits. UPDATE, May 26, 2013: I continue to use this scale everyday. It has remained accurate and easy to use. Unfortunately, this morning, when I took the scale from it's place on the shelf, the glass tray was wobbly. I tried to re-secure the glass tray to the scale base, but it won't lock into place. The function of the scale still works, but I am now concerned the glass tray may fall off and break. This design flaw could easily be fixed--creating a more durable product--if they used metal pieces to connect the base and the tray, rather than plastic. UPDATE, July 19, 2013: I wanted to update this yet again and let you know that I contacted the company about the problem I was having with the glass tray. The owner, Bill, was very helpful and offered to send me a new glass since that was the only problem with the scale. I continue to be extremely pleased with this purchase.

Salter 1450 VS. EatSmart:: TBD
The past few weeks, I've been looking for a high quality, reliable, easy, and usable nutrition scale as a Christmas present for my mum, so, I too have scoured Amazon reviews but was stuck with indecision. I was interested in the Salter models 1406 and 1450 and this EatSmart model. I discounted the Salter 1450: - screen looked crowded and difficult to read- fine for me, but my mum? and - Although I liked the concept of an internal nutrition database that doesn't require you plug in codes, I read in reviews that it is actually tedious to enter foods into the button system- which is set up like a telephone dialing system so you'd have to press 3 three times in order to get the letter "F". So, though a cool concept the dim and crowded screen and my mother's low technical savvy ways, made me decide to say good bye to this seemingly cool (and expensive) scale. I also discounted the code-dependent Salter 1406: - although the code book sounded fine, the information screen also looked dim, small, and crowded. Although I'm looking for a scale that can produce a lot of information, I want it to be clearly presented so it is easy and enjoyable to process. Then I turned to the Eat Smart Digital Nutrition Scale: - It works by a code book, so easier for my mum. - I was also impressed by the clear presentation of the nutritional information into 3 easily readable values on a screen. - I also thought my mum would benefit from the back-lit option. However, I decided to ring EatSmart and see if they could fill in the remaining holes and see if I could feel more confident in making this purchase. I am very impressed with the customer service: within 30 seconds I was talking to a representative who was a great source for information and seemed an expert on this specific model. He described all 4 different screens: 1st screen shows: Calories/Carbs/Fiber 2nd screen shows: Sodium/Potassium/Magnesium 3rd screen shows: Total Fat/Sat Fat/Cholesterol 4th screen shows: Calcium/Protein/Vitamin K I actually prefer going through 4 different screens to a crowded screen, and I think my mum will too. I also asked about a few items to see if they were in the code book. After reading a review that complained that sugar and baking soda are not in the code book, I asked about those. (Hoping that perhaps they had revised the code book). The representative said that baking soda is not in the code book but said it is very easy to figure out the nutritional information for anything at all- and we went through it step-by-step. He suggested: Step 1: Look the food up on the USDA nutrition tool on the website I beleive it is this webpage: [...] Ex. I looked up Raw Sugar Step 2: Select measure of food for one serving; and how many of desired nutritional values are in it- and write it into the provided space at the back of the code booklet so you don't have to look it up again. Ex. I selected 1 individual packet, which is 5 g. and found that there are 4.9 carbs. Step 3: Enter it into the nutrition calculator in the scale and measure the amount of food. It would then calculate the nutrition value for the amount of food I would be using. Ex. I put sugar from 1.75 packets on the scale and am told that there are 8.575 Carbs. It sounds like a fairly easy process, and even though it may throw my mum for a loop at first, I'm sure with my help we'll get her used to that. So, I went ahead and think this will be a present she'll like and use. But secretly, I'm also going to be excited to try it out in person on Christmas day and will update. I also know, it's a matter of time before I justify buying this for myself!

Wonderful tool for eating healthy!
I recently purchased the EatSmart Digital Nutrition Scale and am extremely happy with it. It is simple to use and doesn't take up too much space. I had been trying to lose a few pounds (about 7) for a couple of months now by counting calories, fat and carbs using a nutrition book and relying on food labels and was not having any success. This scale is way more accurate for measuring the nutritional value of foods. For instance my book would say 1 small banana was so and so many calories...well what exactly is considered a "small" banana? Another thing I noticed is my morning oatmeal says 1/3 cup dry equals 160 calories, but in actuality the true measurement in grams (40g) is actually less than 1/3 cup. This scale lets me know the true exact amount so I'm not over or under estimating. I buy individually flash frozen fish. On the bag it says one fillet is 90 calories....not so....when weighed according to the gram measurement on the bag my scale says the fillets range from 130 up to 150 calories! Now that is a significant difference! The more foods I weighed the more I found out to be inaccurate on the labels or according to my book. So all in all I am very excited to have this scale so that I will be eating exactly what I intend to eat and not some estimation based on general information. Perhaps that is why I didn't drop any weight...I was actually eating more calories than I thought (oh, and I had and still am working out 5 days a week vigorously - been doing that for many many years). I am anxious to see if now that I am using the EatSmart Scale if I will have more sucess with losing those stubborn pounds. As well as it being beneficial for calorie counting it is great for knowing other nutritional values like calcium which is very important for us women, as well as other valuable nutrients. I can see where it would be an invaluable tool for those who are diabetic and would highly recommend it for that purpose. So in closing, I would say it is well worth the price and I am very happy with my purchase!

The New and Improved Eatsmart Scale
I've been eying this item for about a year, but couldn't bring myself to spend the money for it. I recently received an Amazon gift card and decided to go for it. So far, I am really happy with this purchase. I'm actually kind of glad I ended up waiting to get it. The reviews that complain about the readability - no longer an issue! The scale takes up very little room on my counter, yet the platform is large enough to put a full size dinner plate on it. With the backlighting, I can still read it with a plate on it, although a hold feature would be useful (maybe it even has it, so sorry if it does - I'm still learning about as I begin to use it). It seems to be extremely sensitive. You can drop individual mushroom slices and it will continue to add them, unlike some scales. This scale definitely seems to have the most bang-for-your-buck and has high reviews just about everywhere on the web. If you're debating whether this scale is worth it, go for it; I really don't think you'll be disappointed. I'm following a low carb way of eating, and normally track my food with an online program. While that works great at home, I don't have Internet at our cabin in the boonies, so this will keep me on track when I can't look up food values on the Internet. We also have a variety of other special dietary needs in the family, so I have to cook to adapt for everyone's needs. This scale gives you all the information you need to make sure your meals are healthy and acceptable for everyone's needs (sodium, potassium, carbs, fiber, and more). Weighing is so much more accurate than saying a "medium whatever food," as shown in many food calculators.

DO NOT buy it from KingsRx!!
The "new" scale that I ordered from KingsRx arrived with writing (hand-written in blue ink) in the accompanying guidebook. The scale's box is old and has obviously been opened several times before. The scale itself is the pre-2010 version with no backlight (very hard to see the numbers). I contacted KingsRx, and they agreed to give me a full refund and pay for return shipping on the scale. Great. 10 days later, they still had not sent me the prepaid return label, so I inquired as to when I would receive the label (was not mean about my inquiry). KingsRx's response was: Good morning, Mr. XXXXXXX, We have already sent you an e-mail including a pre-paid shipping label to this e-mail address. We did everything should have done, then why you been awaited for 10 days to contact us that you did not get the label. Although, we have contact you immidiatly to tell you that you should get your label The product we send you was out of the box we have gotten from our main supplier and it was not used or even opened in our facility , human mistakes may be have taken place in this issue. Your feedback does reflect a lot to us, and we may understand your frustration. Then we are going to check why you did not receive this label yet, because it could be a technical problem that it did not let the e-mail to be sent to you . We will contact you shortly. Thank you Sam That's their response exactly--misspellings and all. In my opinion, very unprofessional. So I filed a claim with Amazon, and then I suddenly received a return label via email with this message: "Please check the attached file we have your return label. And if you please remove your feedback that will be appreciated." Remove my feedback? Or what? Or I won't get a refund? Well...I'm not removing my feedback. It's honest feedback, and buyers have a right to know my negative experiences with KingsRx. Having received the return label, I shipped back the scale on 1/14/14. Will see if they grant the refund and how long it takes. Stay tuned....

Review by my wife Cheryl
After a lifetime of eating anything I wanted but remaining a trim 110 pounds, middle-age spread found me. I joined a weight loss program, and the pounds are coming off. But while meticulously measuring my food and counting points, I kept wondering, "What's in here? Am I getting enough nutrients? Is this REALLY a half cup of grapes?" I needed education. I needed a food scale. I researched every scale I could find online and learned that the EatSmart nutrition scale was the best choice. My order arrived quickly, and every day I confirm that I made the right choice. The EatSmart scale looks great on my counter, where it stands ready to use at all times. The things I rely on most are its ease of use, its accuracy, and the feedback of nutritional information for 12 nutrients. (Wow!) I am gaining a much deeper understanding of the food I eat. Red or yellow, tomatoes are just tomatoes, right? No! With the EatSmart scale, I immediately see the difference in the nutritional values of these two foods. Armed with knowledge, I can make better choices for my weight loss program and for my health. Now I don't have to guess which foods are high in sodium or calcium. I don't have to wonder why my weight loss was slower some weeks, even though I thought I was "being good." Too many calories! Now I know exactly how many calories I am eating. The EatSmart scale is educating me. While I use it for weight loss/health, my family uses the scale for general cooking and baking. The only improvements I would suggest would be to add a backlight and an AC adapter to support the backlight for us power users.

I love this scale!
I was nervous about ordering because it seems to be a few years old, but this is the best food scale I've ever had. Very accurate and easy to use. I really like all the pre-programmed foods and have been loving tracking my macros. I like the glass top, too it looks nice with my other appliances and it's easy to clean.

The best
It came just as it said the next day. The packaging was neat and secure. I had it mailed from USA to Mexico and it came here with nothing broken. I have been using the scale everyday to weigh my food to maintain my daily portions. The scale is very accurate and in my opinion it looks great in my kitchen. Honestly for the price it is fantastic. It comes with two books, one with codes so you know what to plug in for each food. Also another one that gives tips about healthy eating. I would recommend based off my positive experience.
