“I urge you to read Comfortably Unaware , to think about its message, discuss it with your friends—and start to change the world, one bite, one meal, one diet at a time.” — Jane Goodall, PhD, DBE, UN Messenger of Peace Tackle the crucial issue of global depletion alongside Dr. Richard Oppenlander, as it relates to food choice. His straightforward research and stark mental images demonstrate the daily footprint we’re leaving on the environment, and thus encourages us to act with the best interest of all living things. Understanding the reality and consequences of your diet will help you understand how to ensure the health and well-being of our planet, and of ourselves. Shake off complacency and stop being comfortably unaware . Review: Wow! A real eye opener! - Are you ready for the truth? If not, don't read this book. Because it will challenge you as it did me. If you want to live your life consciously and educate yourself, then read away. The affect of our eating animal products is laid out in such a poignant manner that it nettles the conscience to change or live without care for a world outside our little box of unawareness. Even if you don't care about others, at least, if you are a narcissist, you could focus on the health affects to the one body we are given. Then start from there, coming from one narcissist to the other. This is a top ten read of all-time and all books I have ever read. And yes, I have drank the cool-aid, but I will settle for a glass of Kombucha or fair-trade coffee. Organically produced thank you very much! Review: Amazing reading! - The book is detailed and factual, and offers broad emphasis on sustainable food production and informs a conscious choice for plant based food.

A must-read for everyone!
This is basically a simplified version of The China Study with a heavier focus on the environmental impacts of your diet. This should be a must-read in every school. It was very easy to understand and I liked the size of the font. I flew through this in about 3 days while reading on the beach. My only complaint is that the pages are super white so it almost feels like you’re reading a textbook. But that’s just me being picky :) Buy this for everyone you know!

Good information
Very informative but very repetitive. Good read for those just getting into the topic. Heard a lot of this information from other sources.

POWERFUL, DISPASSIONATE & CONCISE
Uncomfortable & unwelcome truths, humans’ estrangement & separation from nature & other sentient beings & the irreparable damage we are doing to our planet because of our mindless brutality & exploitation, our disregard of other life forms which includes damaging ourselves is brought forth & dug up to see the light of day in an incredibly honest, concise version of the entire topics in a brilliantly edited-to-the-limit version for every/any reader in a "carefully written" non-"smug" not overly theoretical or academic manner. Behind this book are years of research & fact & figure finding. The only readers who could possibly find fault with this book are those who don't wish to see the glaring humble truths of human exploitation of the vulnerable and of the ecosystems that this book forcefully brings to light & just wish to continue in a blind hubris-hell-bent determination toward a human-made catastrophe to destroy all life on earth including ourselves. If indeed there was a "fault" to this book, it would be this super succinct version of these topics edited down to almost a "fault." How I would have encouraged Dr. Oppenlander to add a few more pages! His intention was to reach as many personalities & preferences as possible and still have a powerful impact. This book has an enormous impact, nonetheless, if you allow yourself to see the crushing & humbling truths he sets forth. His book, "Food Choice and Sustainability: Why Buying Local, Eating Less Meat, and Taking Baby Steps Won't Work" has almost 500 pages.

Very informative!
I read this book quickly. I feel it is a must read. We need to spread this message as much as we can! I plan to share this book with as many people as I can to get to read it. There is power in knowledge. After reading it, I have absolutely modified my eating!

Good Eco view of the reason for a Vegan Diet.
There are a number of reasons for moving into a Vegan Diet. Personally, I did it for health reasons motivated by Forks over Knives. However, once you get into the world of Veganism you find that it makes sense on a number of levels: Health, Health Care costs, Compassion for People, Compassion for Animals, Environmental impacts and personal spritual growth. This book addresses the environmental impact of animal based diets. It s the elephant in the room. Changing light bulbs alone will not solve climate change. Switching to a vegan diet has a much bigger impact. Good read even if the enviornment was not your primary reason for going vegan.

Great Read
Really enjoyed the book. Very eye opening. If you are at all concerned about the environment, this is a 'must read' book that provides the reader with another view of how we are degrading the global environment that no one wants to talk about..

Opinionated? Yes! Forceful? Yes! Worth reading? Yes!
Yes this is one man's opinion and it is expressed very forcefully and with some repetition as noted by other reviewers. However I do not think that the fact that some may feel insulted by the tone (I personally didn't) , may find it repetitive in a few places (that is how we get our point across is it not?) or feel mildly battered by the end of it (this is important so we should not feel comfortable after reading it) , should stop me reading it and wanting to share it with others. The subject matter is very hard to hear, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be shouting it from the rooftops. This book does not just talk of CO2 emissions as many others do, it talks about water, land, air, resource depletion. It appears to be well referenced and is powerful stuff. I have bought another 'lending' copy and even made notes as I read, as there is just so much potentially planet-changing information contained in these pages. Everyone can take something away from this book and I highly recommend it.

An eye opening book
This book should be a must read for children in schools. I doubt that any sensible human being would continue eating animal product in spite of being aware of the negative consequences.
