Solid, well built solution to fix HDMI cable length issues
While troubleshooting a bizarre flickering problem with my LCD projector, I luckily came across a posting on AVS forum about HDMI signal degradation. This little device fixed my problem. Background:I purchased an Optoma HD141x LCD projector, which I ceiling mounted in my basement home theatre. In order to connect it to my Denon AV receiver (sitting under screen in front of room), I needed approximately 22' of run to connect. I ordered a highly rated 25' cable after doing some homework on maximum run length. Once connected, everything worked great for TV 720p @ 60Hz and for Blu-ray1080p @ 24Hz. The problem arose once my Blu-ray played DVD or other services like Amazon video or Netflix which switched to native 1080p @ 60Hz.. the screen jumped with horrible white flickering and noise. It was un-watchable. I checked over every setting from the projector and even updated firmware on the Denon. Out of the blue I came across the cable length discussion and decided to test by moving the Blu-ray player to the back of the room and connect a short HDMI cable to the projector.. voila!Installing this little device is a dream. I connected two 12' cables with this repeater in between. It now sits mounted above the ceiling tiles, and gets its power directly from the HDMI cable - no external power source needed. And, I left the adjustable gain set to default "0" setting - works right out of the box. It's also sturdy and well built. Highly recommended!

It didn't work, but not fully tested.
It didn't work for me. Problem: Every so often (like every 10 to 15 minutes) there's a glitch and the projector losses connection. Solution: Thought this device would increase the signal avoiding the loss of connection (which lasted for like a second). Setup: Comcast box HDMI out (like three foot cable) to the extender, then a 25 foot HDMI cable to the projector.I did hook up the extender with power ac. The light turns on, and then another light turns on when I have the cables connected. I assume when the 2nd light turns on it means the extender identifies and verifies there's a signal running through. Outcome: No signal was connected to the projector at all! I disconnect the extender and just ran the HDMI cable, sure enough the signal works, but it works with the glitch. Why didn't the extender work? Why was there no signal? Theory: My projector has a VGA input and I use a HDMI converter to VGA. I'm thinking, perhaps the extender changes the signal to a point where the HDMI converter doesn't recognize the signal... is that even possible? The reason I gave it three stars is because I've yet to test it without the HDMI converter, so I didn't want t knock it out until I've tested it without the converter. I hope this helps.

I have a projector that is fed by a 40 HDMI cable that plugs into my home theater receiver. It always worked fine. Then I added a TV so I had to get an HDMI splitter to send the signal to the TV and the projector. I tried different splitters and switches and the projector would not work with any of them, only when it was plugged directly into the receiver. I first tried this device right after the splitter which is right behind the receiver, it did not work. The instructions say to put it at the end of the hdmi run, so at the projector. This goes against what I have been taught in AV distribution amplification. At the end of the cable the signal is a degraded signal and you never want to amplify a degraded signal, rather you want to use more power to push it from the start. Maybe that was with old analog stuff because when I put this at the back of the projector, it worked perfectly with the gain set at 1. The image looks perfect. It did not come with an AC power supply even though it has an input for one. It gets power from the HDMI cable. Maybe for longer runs, an AC power supply would be needed but it wasn't on my 40' cable. Glad I found an affordable solution because running a new cable would have been very difficult.

Works well if you can be flexible with placement along cable run
This product works really well within some limitations. Placement at the correct place along the cable path is important !!It needs to have a a decent signal (even if weak) for it to be able to repeat it. And, you must not put it on the end near the signal source. Otherwise, it sees a beautiful signal that does not need repeating so it does nothing. So, try the very end of the cable. If it gets a good enough signal it will amplify it and repeat it just before it gets to the remote HDMI device. (I tried this and it worked on one device quite well.) On another device, I needed to plit the cable run and place this repeater in the middle of the run. Both work fine. But, you may need to do a little tinkering. Have patience.Love the blue power light. One of my locations is up near a ceiling. Can see the light at a glance. No ladder needed.

4PETRTN Review - the one without the gain control
Seems just about every review is for the base PETRN model with unsupplied 5VDC AC adapter and gain control. I got the 4PETRTN HDMI Repeater Extender v1.4 that has a micro USB (cable included), so the issue with power was not a problem (although some kind of indicator light would have been nice.) I got this because when I ceiling mounted my projector, I had to go out of the Xbox One with a 35ft HDMI 2.0 cable. HD looked amazing, but with 3D there was good depth of field, but no pop-outs. Some online research revealed a dirty little secret that 3D is only effective for about 10 feet up a cable without a booster/repeater. So, for a quick eleven bucks I gave this a shot. Came out of the Xbox One with a 3 foot HDMI cable into the input, put the 35 foot HDMI into the output, and then used the supplied USB cable to connect it to a free USB port in the back of the Xbox. Tossed in a copy of Minions 3D and the pop-out was back and better than ever. A quick, cheap, simple fix that did the trick for me.

Excellent For Oculus Rift
Used for extending my Oculus Rift HDMI, Managed to add another 2.0m of HDMI cable to the total length. Careful as it does need power and a mini usb lead (like most Android Phones use) Make sure that you have a usb cable that matches the length from the power source (I use a phone charger) to where you place the Extender, or you could inadvertently shorten your overall distance. Overall a great product that has given me more freedom with my Rift

Awesome for extending the Oculus Rift!
Bought for my Oculus Rift to extend a 3m HDMI (Amazon Basic) to the Oculus Rift. I just plugged the USB into a multi USB adapter I had laying around. Could not ask for more for the price, would recommend to my nan!

Very good. I use it as a buffer amplifier between a media box and USB recorder. No problems at all. colour improvement noticeable and no interaction between thetwo pieces of equipment.
