Cory Helps Kids Cope with Sexual Abuse

I bought this book when I started working with a six-year-old boy who was sexually abused by a classmate on multiple occasions. I was a little worried about some of the language, like labeling the abuser as a sexual abuser and also just calling his abuse "abuse", because I didn't want to traumatize him more. However, found that my client responded very well to the language. But more importantly, he was really engaged in the activities and was able to repeat the things he learned, which showed that he was internalizing the information. These activities are engaging and very helpful. I also like the letter for parents at the end of each chapter. Many parents have a lot of questions and there is often not enough time to address the parents concerns and the child concerns. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to add some structure to their treatment of a child has been sexually abused. I think that it's better for younger children, like ages 10 and down, but you can make work it for older kids. Probably not teens though.Side note: I've never been disappointed with anything created by this author, but this book, I feel, is her master work. For clinicians, if you ever questioned whether to buy a book by Liana Lowenstein, I say go ahead and do it.

This book with interactive activities works well with youth who are tentative about sexual abuse therapy

I had a foster child who had experienced sexual abuse. I read the chapters in advance and talked about the topics casually in conversation with her. It guided me greatly in framing my conversations.
