Firefighter Horizontal Valve with Stabilizer Bracket Kit 1 inch-NPT
W**K
Wish I had before the Ridgecrest 4.6 and 7.1 earthquakes
I live in Ridgecrest, CA, the epicenter for the July 4 and 5th 4.6 and 7.1 and the hundreds of aftershocks we have had afterward and still have as I write this. (1.0s-4.6).After the 7.1 which I watch my house literally torque and crack from the view from the street, I immediately went and manually shut off the gas to me and my neighbors. I started to think of what would happen if I was on travel for work? My house fills with gas and my pets die from gas or there is an explosion and they burn?! PG&E (gas company) was telling people to leave the gas on and that they were “monitoring”. Yeah right. They are going to “monitor” every house all at the same time after a 7.1? I say BS. So I started researching and found the FireFighter valve with stabilizer bracket. I ordered it, took 2-3 days, went to the local Home Depot and got the right sized gas pipe, 18” pipe wrenches, thread sealant, then installed. For mine, the stabilizer let is not needed because it is so close to the house, but I put it on anyways. Drill and bits needed (has the screws and drywall/stucco anchors.Anyways, tested this thing by banging on it with increasing levels of hardness until it activates. Just drops a flapper valve inside which block the flow and shuts off to the house. Triggers at about a 4.0 level event. I love it! Such piece of mind! Don’t know why but CA and US Gov should MANDATE these in all homes and apartments in earthquake zones. IE all the west cost of CA up to Washington State. This simple $100 device can and WILL save property and lives. Also looked at a water solution and bought the MOEN FLO (see other write-up).NOTE: I have CA earthquake insurance and had substantial damage BUT CA policy will not go into effect until over 15% deductible is met. IE in my case $68K. WTF!!!!? Total scan and not worth it. I have that much in concrete damage alone, oh but that is not covered. CA earthquake insurance is only worth it if your house completely collapses and needs to be totaled. Otherwise, its a scam.NOTE: If you care about your house and live in CA or earthquake land, BUY THIS. No one cares about your property and pets more than you. If you don’t and another “big one” hit and your house burns down...well that’s on you.NOTE: If you don’t have good handyman skills, scared of gas or tools, then hire a plumber and they can put it in for you. I would have done that but the local plumbers were busy (due to the earthquakes) for the next 2 week. I have earthquakes, literally 5-6 times a day. I’m wasn’t going to wait and glad I didn’tT
