Reasonably priced meter and test strips
This is a nice glucose test kit. It is cheap and includes everything I needed to start tracking my glucose level. Best of all, this is not a hook where the company sells you a cheap meter and then gets you with expensive strips. No. The test strips are reasonably priced at around 20 cents per strip. After 200+ tests, the readings seem pretty consistent so far - if I eat the same food, I would get very similar readings afterwards. There were a few unusual readings, but those turned out to be the effect of the food itself. For example, after consuming a double burger, my glucose level went up and then down in an hour, but up again near the 1.5 half mark. Not sure about accuracy though. I did compare it with a tester of another brand. Their readings were similar at fasting level, but differed by a bit (>15) at higher levels.

Thank you, Bayer. This monitor is a DREAM to use!
I want everyone to know how incredibly LUCKY you are to have this meter and lancet device. I have not had to test in 18 years, back when I had gestational diabetes. I am now testing again after menopause. This is night and day relative to what I used to use -- this thing is a dream. The monitor is small and easy to use. The lancet device is SO MUCH BETTER. Even on the "large blood drop" setting (ie, the "poker" for your finger is adjustable to various depths) where you extract more blood, you can barely feel it...and yet, when you wait a moment after using it, enough blood comes out of the tiny little hole to make the test work. My old lancet device used to hurt -- A LOT -- all day long. It left holes all over my hands. This won't do that. The other remark that I would make is that the instructions for this device are very clearly written. Sometimes with these types of devices, you get so frustrated trying to figure them out. Bayer must have devoted quite a bit of time to ensue that the user manual is clearly written. This is not some manual that was written in China. I didn't have to go and reread anything -- just opened it up and within 10 minutes, after perusing the booklet, did my first test. I don't have a life-and-death situation to monitor, so it is important to consider my situation if you do (ie, people for whom this device is a lifesaver might have other thoughts). But, for someone who is using it just to watch the sugar now and then, it is a piece of cake. One tip: the only problem I did have was when I used my test strips. The first test I did gave me a number outside of the valid test strip range. I had not done a gentle shake of the testing solution prior to using, which the manual says is necessary. I redid the test after gently shaking the bottle and it came out fine.

Most Accurate of 3 Meters
I have an Accucheck Aviva, a Prodigy Auto Code, (very inaccurate) and this Contour. I ran a control solution test on all (3) meters, and the Contour had the narrowest range within the reagent. I then ran a glucose test on all 3 meters: The Contour measured 93, the Accucheck came in at 96, and finally the Prodigy came in at 140! I will be using the Contour as my go-to meter in the future. Also, the price was VERY friendly, and included a few strips, a few lancets, a lancet pen, a log book and control solution. Lastly, the price of the Contour test strips are the lowest of the 3 meters.

Works Great - Starter Kit doesn't include enough to start
My doctor recommended that I get a glucose meter to monitor my blood sugar for a month or so. So I didn't want spend a bundle, but at the same time I wanted a meter that worked easily and consistently. I read amazon reviews and also looked at Consumer Report. This monitor was rated as one of the best, and from my interpretation of the rating symbols, the most accurate. So I put together my order- this kit, extra lancets, and some of the test strips. The other kits I was considering ordering included some of the test solution, so I didn't notice that this one did NOT until it arrived. This kit includes: * The metering device * The lancing device * 10 lancets * Directions (long version and quick guide) * Clinilog - which is a little booklet formatted to make recording your test results easy. (It fits in the little carry bag too.) When I looked at the reviews of those who ordered the control solution from amazon- the reviews were bad- product box was dirty, had been opened, etc. I didn't want to order it. As it turns out, pharmacies (CVS, Target, etc) do not carry this on the shelf. They have to special order it. Delay delay delay. (I am used to amazon prime- order it now & have it right away, so this tests my small amount of patience.) So basically, I have had the meter for over a week, still no control solution- which the directions say to use regularly, especially before the first time you use it. Well, guess what- I went ahead and started using it last night anyway. The numbers it gives seem reasonable to me- though mine is an unqualified opinion. The lancing device works fine- I put the adjustment right in the middle of the depth range and that worked well for me. It didn't hurt but the drop was big enough. It only takes a tiny drop of blood to test- this is a real bonus. (The last time I had to do this was about 10 years ago and the huge improvement in these devices is obvious to me.) So- because the meter is easy to use, compact, and 'seems accurate'- I give it 4/5 stars. If you are diabetic and are using these measurements to calculate insulin you should make sure that you get some of the control test solution from your pharmacy or something. In case a manufacturer reads this- It would totally be worth an increase in price for the convenience of having a bottle of control solution included!

Love my Meter!!!
I got it quick in the mail. I was nervous about the prick to the finger, the ones at the doctors office hurt every time but not this one!! I didn't feel a thing, it also read quick and took the smallest amount of blood. I am very happy with it. This meter is worth way more than I paid. It was complete, had the solution, batteries, lancets and strips. The lancet holder was great, you can adjust the depth of the needle and the needle is soooo small. BTW I set the lancet to the lowest depth and still had enough blood to get a fast reading first time. I am thrilled!

It is pretty easy to use (I've never done any of this ...
I haven't had a blood test in almost 7 years, and I started displaying some of the signs of diabetes. I don't really have insurance at the moment, so I ordered this to give me peace of mind until I can actually get bloodwork done. It is pretty easy to use (I've never done any of this before). I ordered using my Amazon prime, and the kit included: * 10 testing strips (all I needed) * 10 lancelets * Microlancelet * Log book to record your blood glucose * Really simple guide to how to actually prick your finger and get the results * Huge instruction manual * Control solution The whole experience wasn't that bad. I did the control solution, and it was right in range. And when I did it on myself, it didn't hurt nearly as much as I was expecting. I fasted for 12 hours, and I tried 3 times, and my readings were 76, 84, and 86, so it can vary a bit, but all-in-all it didn't vary much at all. I most likely don't have diabetes, and that was all I wanted to know, so this was perfect. For $7, it was worth it. :-)

Accuracy is Important!
I've been researching the accuracy of glucose monitoring devices since I've been told I may have prediabetes. I have had my Reli-On for a year now, but after finding out that the accuracy is about 92% or so I wanted something more accurate. The Contour Next EZ meets the FDA's tightened accuracy requirements of 95%. Some reviews even stated close to 98% or even 100% accuracy. As a potential prediabetic, I take each number I get seriously and it helps me determine my next steps when it comes to diet. I highly recommend this glucose monitor device. (The photos attached to this review are the numbers I received with my Contour Next EZ vs my Wal-mart ReliOn device. They were taken at the same time (walmart device's time is off) and with the same finger prick.

Great, easy kit!
I am not a diabetic, but had some concerns so I purchased this kit. It is a nice small, easy to use, fast results kit- comes with 10 test strips and 10 microlet lancets, Microlet2 lancing device, Meter, log book and 2.5ml of control solution (level 2), with a nylon storage bag. Easy instructions, finger poke is not too painful - you need very little blood to test, 5 seconds for results. I felt the price was good. (I won't be going through health insurance.)
