Q: Can I use this on a residential wooden door that is flush mounted to prevent people from slamming the door?

That would be a unconventional use. Wood doors have moulding which is not flat. Top/bottom pieces need a flat surface therefore I would suggest other means to prevent slamming door. Also would doors usually hollow may be difficult fastening securely. Hope this helps.

Q: can I use this on a heavy door?

I installed this on a freezer door, it replaced an existing closer and was just like this closer. Yes, door was heavy I'm sure. I'm not sure of your application. But worked well for my application.

Door closer set for a flush mount door you would have to space the hook out the inch and 3/4

No, it cannot mount on the side. Must be on the top.

Great product!

The media could not be loaded. This door closer is the absolute best you can buy. I have used 4 different brands on this door and Kason is the only brand that correctly closes the door and keeps it closed!

Works well

My walk in cooler was not closing all the way and every employee would not take the time to push it the last 2 inches shut. I ordered this replacement part and basically unscrewed the old one and screwed this one on. Now when someone is walking out of the cooler with a hand full of items and they hip check the door closed, this item will pull it the rest of the way to close it tight. It seems pricey but when your compressor fails on your walk in from running non stop from the door being cracked open it will more than pay for itself. It works great!

This works OK. Our door is a little hard to shut, so this doesn't get it done (the latch will catch, but barely, leaving a bit of a gap. This is probably more the fault of a really old door and not the product, so I didn't ding it for that.
