Easy Basics for Good Cooking Paperback – March 1, 1987

I have had a copy of this cookbook for 34 years and it finally fell apart. I use this cookbook all the time. Very happy I could replace my copy with a newer copy.

My mom gave me this book when I moved out on my own and it was a lifesaver! I ordered it for my daughters since it helped me so much. I still use mine from time to time. The recipes are basic and delicious. Some are more challenging but can be done by a beginner and will really build confidence in your cooking skills. There is a wealth of information in addition to the recipes. Conversion charts, Substitutions for ingredients, cooking charts for Vegetables, Meats, eggs etc. The pictures are great too! I remember the first time I served Chicken Kiev to my family, it seemed so fancy I felt like a chef. Everyone loves the banana bread recipe too. I paid about 26.00 for each book and since they haven't been in print since 1985 these were of course used copies. It was sentimental for me so I didn't mind the cost. I've seen some people trying to get over 200.00 for these books. I wouldn't pay that much for them. If I wasn't able to get them for a reasonable price I would just try to find a current cookbook with as many of the great features this one has. Hope this helps :)

My Mother originally owned a copy of this cookbook! When I moved out, this was the only book she had, that she wouldn't let me take! It was a little pricey, but since Sunset is no longer printing it, I was stuck! Just a little disappointed as the picture did not match what I got. The picture is of the original wire bound book, and this book is bound, with glue which I predict will start to come apart with continued use. And it will get used, do get me wrong, it has many of my go-to recipes; Shrimp Scampi, Quiche, Pie Crust, etc... It will NOT stop me from using it, I will probably just wait for it to fall apart, then put in a ½" notebook! I would still order from this vendor again, I would probably call them to make sure I was getting what was in the picture!

This book was recommended to be by a co worker. She was given this book when it first came out and she swears by it that it's the best cookbook for a beginner. It is very detailed and while it is dated, the information is very useful. I haven't put any of it to use yet but I have confidence that this book is helpful. This book was said to be in good condition but it was actually in great condition! I got lucky.

I received this book many years ago when I was learning to cook. There is not a recipe in the book that I’ve cooked and I didn’t like. Therefore, I bought my daughter this book…she loves it too’

I have had a copy of the cookbook since the mid-80s, and, even though somewhat dog-eared and stained, it is still a really great resource. As a former professional in the food business, I still (even though I have dozens of reference cookbooks) refer to this as one of the finest examples of basic recipes. With excellent photographs that demonstrate to the both the beginner and the advanced cook, I purchased this as a gift for my son and daughter-in-law. They both love to cook and have already found this to be a great resource. This is one book, that should be reissued by Sunset. If you have the chance, and you love to cook, bake or just learn more about this fabulous domestic art, get a copy! You won't be sorry.

I love this book !!!! Easy to follow instructions and ingredients you usually have on hand. I had an original book from first print 1982 , apparently my mother's dog thought the binder tasted good . I keeped the original although falling apart, until now when I was able to find another 1982 copy to replace it. I'd like to send a shout out to Half Price Books for their exceptional customer care !!!!

Excellent buy for a 1982 cookbook. This cookbook was in very good shape except for water damage, a 2x2 inch square on the inner cover. See picture. No marks inside. Very happy with my purchase.

I was given this cookbook as a gift when I was 18 years old, it lasted me 30 years, and now because I STILL use it as reference, and recipes, I had to order again. So happy they are still around, and thank you so much for quick delivery~~its exactly as described and I am so happy with it. Here's to another 30 years!!

So impressed with this cookbook. Easy, and detailed, with great recipes. Old school, but definitely a cookbook to have in your cookbook shelf. I've tried many recipes in this book and they all met with success, and Im no cook, by any stretch of the imagination.! good purchase!
