Not a very efficient fire striker compared to a Swedish fire striker.. Two stars for a handy bottle opener on the striker attachment

Went for a 15 mile boat ride in Northern Ontario this past summer. After a good hour of sight seeing we decided we wanted to cook lunch on my rocket stove. Looked all over for a lighter in my tackle box and boat with no luck. As I was looking for a few minutes it hit me right then and there that I forgot I had it in my cup holder of my lawn chair back at camp -15 miles away! Two hour boat drive! Shux! I used other expletives! Lol! Luckily I brought a small emergency kit whith a magnifying glass and the Uberleben Zunden fire steel starter brand new in the package. It was a partly cloudy sunny day and started with the magnifying glass to light a fire. I tried different techniques but had no success! Also having to wait for the cloud to pass by after a few minutes trying was a real pain. I then resorted to use the fire starter. I made a small tinder pile using dried grass, sticks and pine cones and placed it in the rocket stove. It was windy so I had to try and strike out of the wind. I struck the fire starter once on the first try and a no go. Stuck again a second time and shot up some sparks. I had a bright red glowing spark that ignited the tinder pile right off the bat! Success!!! This was my first time using a fire steel to light a fire and was amazed on how effective it was. It started with little to no effort. I had 5 hungry people relying on me to get this fire going that day. Glad I had this fire steel to get the job done. I bought a few more to put in my tackle box and one in my truck. I definitely would recommend buying this product if your going deep in the woods, camping and or just having for emergency purposes. Don't be stuck in the woods with only having a lighter. Lighters can run out, be lost or in my case be forgotten. Have a different means of starting a fire! It could save your life and or even make you a hero at dinner time!

This Fire Starter is well priced and truly works, producing a robust stream of spark with almost no effort, even on my first try. I have two other starting rods, one works well enough, but the striker is way to small and awkward to hold and operate. The other has two magnesium rods, useful for scrapping very hot burning booster shaving to augment its effectiveness in wet condition. However, the size is awkward, and the spark action much weaker than this great too. I now have a great solution when in the bush!

I have only used this fire starter once. I didn’t like the slow motion promotion video as it undoubtedly makes the sparks look more impressive and they didn’t use it to actually start a fire so I needed to see if it was a good as other reviews claimed. Did my first test and determined the sticker is better suited to right hand users but this was easy enough for me to adjust to. After scraping off the protective coating I did find that smooth strike did generate exceelnt quantity and quality sparks and shaving off part of the rod to ignite with sparks also worked well. Scraping the road to create a small amount to burn was far easier than doing the same with a magnesium block. Based on what I have experienced so far I am confident I could start a fire. My go to has been Light My Fire as they are good quality and easy to find but I would certainly recommend others give this rod a try as the price is reasonable and it is very convenient to have it delivered right to your door. My first fire test was a small piece of gently crushed birch bark. Two strikes of the rod generated enough sparks to ignite the bark. Impressive. Other notable features: Strong lanyard with enough length to allow for use with the cordage getting in the way. Rod seems well secured in the wood handle (which could potentially be ised as timder). Striker is secured on lanyard and would be safer than using a knife or other tool. Sufficient sparks that this tool could be used as a light source for emergency signaling.

Impresionante, fácil y sin apenas ejercer fuerza sobre el. Lo recomiendo si queréis un pedernal que cumpla su función en totalidad. Sierra cantidad de chispas en cada pasada. Muy buena ergonomía.
