Wonderfull buy!!!!!
I installed this printer on a laptop that did not have a CD-ROM drive and so i expected it to be allot harder to install but to my joy all i had to do was visit the hp web site and found the CD to download and it was quick and easy to do. the install went smoothly and with a little adjustment witch was a part of the set up it was printing photos and papers like a pro and extremely quick for color about 10 seconds WOW!!! LOL just remember something i forgot to do lol i put the print cartridges in and forgot to take the tab off the black one in my hurry to put this thing to use lol but it was easy to fix and i was off and running again!!!!Great buy!!!!

You can't go lower than rock bottom...
This printer has been a thorn at my side. I currently have Windows 7. I was skeptical about the driver issues. HP loads a bunch of junk software that you don't need. But at the same time, installing just the printer driver won't allow you to maintain or calibrate the D1660.Now for the problems leading to a 1 star review:-I received a couple of BSOD after a failed print and it referenced the HP USB drivers. I also can't remove any print queue from the windows print spooler when it fails. So far I had 1 successful print out of 8 and already the black cartridge level shows nearly a 10% decline for TEXT!!! I'm not printing pictures here just receipts and documents.I probably do have a defective item considering the luck from other reviewers. Literally this HP says it is out of paper and I have 5 sheets in the tray. I hit the power button to try again, still shows no paper. I hear the gears moving but it won't feed the paper. I took the sheets out and inserted only 1 page and it accepted the page. That's ridiculous.-When that one page was printing, it stopped 50% and said a paper jam! I pull it out and hit resume but it wouldn't respond. I can't cancel the print either and my system takes a dump to the aforementioned BSOD and windows print spooler.HP's quality is certainly declining. I have a PSC 1410 which was great until I ran out of ink. I purchased a new ink cartridge. The printer wouldn't recognize the new cartridge and I was too lazy to return the cartridge for another one. I never heard of people returning faulty print cartridges... and how can the printer be defective when it was working all this time and ran out of ink.-Instead of wasting another $40 on ink... it was actually more cost effective to buy a new printer. I don't understand that. Well I ended up with a crappy D1660 which I probably will recycle soon.

A nice printer for the money!
Doea a great job with black ink printing, and lines up perfectly. Uses a lot of black ink so buy extra. Took me a while to set up as I had to erase old HP printer software.Does NOT come with a USB cable!!!!

It eats Power Point slides
You have to buy the cord that goes from the printer to your computer, it does not come with the printer. The cord arrived a week after the printer, which was annoying. It took me about 45 minutes to run the CD software and it put about five applications on my computer, which I don't need. The software also looks for updates constantly so I uninstalled that one after three days. The first item I went to print was a Power Point slide, which it ate and I had to pull the paper out. Eventually it did print--but it took a while. Plain documents print fast, but if you have color/art on the item it takes a long time and it is loud. Some people would say, what do you expect for $35....but I have always bought cheap desktop printers and had better experiences. At the end of the day, it does work, but I would not suggest it to a friend of family member looking to buy a cheap printer.

Not bad for the price
BEFORE YOU READ ANYTHING ELSE, this printer comes with everything you'll need (including ink cartridges) EXCEPT the cable that connects it to your cpu. Be sure you buy a USB cable! My old HP Deskjet finally died, so needed a replacement. Purchased this one a week ago. Setup was easy. Am still using Windows XP, so all went well and quickly. I had more hassle disconnecting the old printer from all of the cord tangle than anything else.Print quality is fine.A couple of negatives, though.HP insists on adding all kinds of ad junk to your browser - I didn't see a quick way to do a custom install, so had to go in and delete all of it out.Lag time between clicking the print button and actual printing is substantial. (This may be a function of my older cpu.)This is undoubtedly the loudest printer I have ever owned. But it was $29.99. If it lasts a couple of years, how can I complain?

A Solid Little Printer
When my HP932C printer died after nearly 10 years of hard labor, I needed a printer NOW. Money was a factor in my getting this printer, but regardless, this is a good printer. It prints as well as my 932 which was a great printer. I read another review where someone claimed it is quiet. Quiet in comparison to a food processor? That said I don't really care about it making some noise as long as I can hear my radio while I'm printing (I can). The only fly in the ointment is the power switch which can be a little uncooperative when trying to turn the printer off. Back to the price $29 and change is pretty sweet for a good printer. I don't bother with HP Printer Cartridge Extortion so I can keep it in cartridges without it breaking the bank. [...] will get you what need cheaply and they pay the shipping. In summation I will say that if you need a good printer, but don't want to pay an arm and a leg, this is a great little printer
