If you stack them wouldn't that make the front opening too small to pull out the DVDs? It appears you have to lift them up to get over that ledge.

I have purchased 3 of these that sit on top of the two corner cabinets holding my DVD movie & TV Series collections before streaming existed. I didn’t realize when I cleaned my storage I found more DVDs for my collection. These do with regular DVD cases near inside each other. The front quarter panel is magnetic and flips down allowing you to pull an DVD out without removing the top nested two like mine that are full & weigh a lot. I just purchased several for my parents to put in their huge cabinets and the ones they don’t want to disable will have the cover and DVD inside a gorgeous leather binder that holds 400 but looks like a book.

Is the back faux leather as well?

The entire outside is faux leather
