What a peculiar film!Really. What on earth is going on?Much as its fantasy mixed with reality story line has it endearing characteristics, its pace and development is awful.I mean, what was the point of it all?Interesting people and their oddities were portrayed in a rather 2D manner. The story was so convaluted I had no idea where I was in the film. The plot lost the plot.However, It is a well photographed subject matter and production design is very worthy. Costume design was top notch and creature effects were fabulous.The script was so so. Dialogue did lead the viewer into wanting to know where this story was heading to, as it should. But, it lead nowhere...Film left me rather bored. But then it is probably aimed at a very young audience.

Love Eva Green and she is fantastic in this. Im a big fan of anything to do with super heros and magic powers etc but this just did not quite make it. It constantly felt like something big was going to happen, especially with Samuel L Jackson as the bad guy, but it never quite happened. Good film, could have been great

This is a really exciting and different film. From a fairly steady start the story builds up and the tension mounts. The characters are great and the special effects are brilliant. The climax is tremendous and has one sitting on the edge of ones seat.I only have one complaint but it applies to so many films today. Switch on the subtitles or you cannot hear all the conversations. I will do that next time I watch the film and there will be a next time.

What a fantastic family film, great acting throughout. Engaging from beginning to end thoroughly enjoyable, we have watched this film twice in two months as we originally saw it on the TV, liked it so much we brought it on DVD. Would highly recommend this film, we will definitely be watching it again and again, cannot recommend it enough. Would have given it more than five stars if I could.

Sorry but this was so far from the actual books I thought it must be a new version!!The characters were not what they were in the book as in who did what, who said what or even who was what!The 3 stars are for good special effects and brilliant acting from all, but if you are hoping it will follow anywhere near the books you will I think be sadly disappointed :o(
