Childhood favorite for a new generation
Loved this book as a child, but had completely forgotten it until one day I saw a load of enormous carrots being delivered to a restaurant and memories came flooding back I immediately tracked down this sturdy board book edition and bought it for my granddaughterโs first birthday.

Oldie but goodie!
I remember reading this book to my kid brothers in the '60's, then my own daughters in the '90's. And I just bought it again for my grand kiddos. Such a sweet story and when my daughter was around two, she had the story memorized. Too cute!

A classic!
My grandson and I love reading this together. He has been tending to his little plants on their balcony in the city, and this book encourages him to keep watering!

The Carrot Seed is great for youngsters who are involved in planating!
I am familiar with this book from when I was a teacher many years ago. I purchased it to give to a little 4 year old girl who at a zoom meeting I attended with her father, was so excited, telling him about the plant she had just planted. I thought The Carrot Seed would be perfect and gave it as a gift. Her Dad told me she loved the book.

The granddaddy of all picture books in America
In his essay "Ruth Krauss and Me," author Maurice Sendak says "that perfect picture book, The Carrot Seed, the granddaddy of all picture books in America, a small revolution of a book that permanently transformed the face of children's book publishing. The Carrot Seed, with not a word or a picture out of place, is dramatic, vivid, precise, concise in every detail. It springs fresh from the real world of children."This is a timeless classic that has been known and loved by children and parents for years.A young boy is told by his parents, competition and his big brother that his carrot will not grow. After a long time of pulling weeds, watering and patience the carrot finally grows, and it is huge. The author Ruth Krauss was born in 1901 is also the author of A Hole Is To Dig; I'll Be You and You Be Me; Charlotte and the White Horse; and many other childrens classics.

Good book for Springtime!
My granddaughter has really been interested in planting a garden. She has both flowers and carrots growing in her raised bed. She loves this story too.

If you've never read this, buy it!
My kids fought over this book for thirty years, they still nick it from each other's houses and read it to their own kids. For some reason it hits just the right spot for anyone from two to forty two. When they hit 52 I'll update.

Carrot seed
A very simple book, with basic illustrations and only a few words per page -ideal for two to three year olds who like the repetitiveness and predictability of the story.

Plant a seed, water, and wait, and it will flourish. Children believe.
No one really thinks this childโs carrot seed will grow, from his parents to his older brother. Spoiler alert - it does! Just wish I could have included the 78 record that came with it in the early 50โs.
