Good Back to Basics
I love Sarah's approach to dealing with all our so called "Franken Foods" of today. Even if they are labeled healthy or bought in a health food store they are often a combination of many additives or sweeteners that are anything but healthy. I also love her website, filled with very practical information about how to take your diet back from the mega food distributors and the food desert many of us call grocery stores. The book is about the importance of getting our fats straight, but at $15 a bit overpriced, especially for a small paperback. Also some of the information like, taking fermented cod liver oil and eliminating all vegetable oils are contradicted in later blogs and articles where she promotes regular cod liver oil and using virgin olive oil; things she is against it appears in this book.Unfortunately in the nutrition and health food industry, what is deemed good today by research might be bad tomorrow depending on new studies, or even environmental, farming or food processing changes. So Sarah is not to blame per se, she is writing about an industry that is in constant flux. A good product today, could be bought out by another company and change the product composition tomorrow. In this sense we are all potential victims of the food and nutrition industries. So while she should not be necessarily held to fault, it is the other weakness of the book. Today's beliefs and research always give way to tomorrows. Her emphasis on getting back to basics and owning your food sources and making your kitchen your pharmacy is right on and is the strength of the book.

I loved her simple way of doing things and her thorough ...
I'm new to traditional cooking (literally several weeks-new) and leaning towards becoming a member of the Weston A. Price Foundation. I began watching Sarah Pope's videos on YouTube (researching how-to videos on Kombucha) and began looking at other stuff on her channel. I loved her simple way of doing things and her thorough way of expressing and explaining things. I loved her passion for what she was teaching and her devotion. I am a firm believer in God not making things complicated in following His Will and that includes what we put in our bodies. Being so new to this, however, it seemed overwhelming with all the misinformation that is available regarding fats and what is supposedly good for us. The things I was learning through Sarah's videos just made sense to me because they were so simple and based on plain old common sense. I purchased her book after hearing what she had to say about it. I'm so glad I did. Everything is so simple to follow and easy for me to outline and use as a foundation to build on in pursuing traditional cooking and why it is important to do so. This book has God-sent for me as a beginner to good nutrition by knowing the proper fats. I refer to it all the time. I love the simple recipes towards the end of the book. Again, for me it's about the fundamentals and building upon it--becoming More through Good Health. The recipes serves as a means to build upon your own creativity in the kitchen-traditionally, of course! This book is a must read for anyone just starting out to traditional cooking as a means to being healthy. It will give you the "need to know" basics (and the truth) on the proper fats we need to consume in order for our bodies to function in the manner God intended. I'm so grateful for this book!

Very short, needed more info
This book was just ok . I wanted a book about healthy fats and this book provided a small amount of info on that but, I think Mary Enig's book is better. What bothered me were her comments about why large scale food companies have changed the fats that are put into foods. She says (on page 20) that the FDA was put into conflict with publicly traded food companies who have to pay shareholders so it is crony capitalism's fault! Money is being made at your expense! I never felt the FDA had my best interests at heart even though the author thought they did in the begining. On page 61 she makes another comment about the almighty dollar. Wow, this woman has a problem with money but, no problem earning a living from selling a book. If you look at the prices for good quality coconut, macnut, and olive oil most people won't pay it or they are not in their budget. I use all of these and grass fed butter. I have no problem with how much money anyone makes. I would like it to be legal and ethical though. We can't control others only ourselves. Many of these companies pay nice salaries to employees and offer health insurance and other benefits.I ordered this to learn more about fats, not hear her politcal views. We all have those. The bottom line is eat clean! Most of our ancestors were far healthier than we are because they ate fresh and clean foods. Kerry Gold and Anchor butters are good and I agree with her on that. Please forgive my rant. All the best on your journey for healthy food.

Great book-everyone needs to read it for better health
After years of low or no fat eating now to find it was all wrong. Fats are healthy (if you consume the right ones) My skin, hair and nails greatly improved. Sara goes through the healthy fats and why you should have them. For years they had us afraid of butter, coconut oil, palm oil only now to find that saturated fat has nothing to do with heart disease. I love my eggs cooked in butter... and I stay full longer. Many researchers are coming forward with new evidence that the original testing about saturated fat was flawed. I'm going back to traditional way of eating -the way my grandmother ate. She used butter, olive oil (she was Italian) never fried with it only for salads, which was everyday- before the meal and drizzling a little on top of the pizza dough before she baked it. For frying she used lard, yes lard and in the pie crust -the pies were delicious! My grandma lived a long life... she passed away at 99. (She did have arthritis).

Great book!
Very well written. Would recommend this book to my family and friends. Especially the ones who are still eating low fat high sugar foods and following SAD diets. More people should use their local farmers to buy raw grass fed dairy and meat. 👍👍
