This did not work for a gate at the top of the stairs and I was going to send it back.Then, I found out how much it was going to cost me to return it... $62.00.I brought it back home, sat down on the couch and looked at the fireplace - bingo!It fit. I had some sticker-type attachments and used them to secure it in place.It deterred our grandson from finding the fireplace an interesting place to play.(We have a gas fireplace that we do not usually use. It has small stones around the logs.)

Good gate, good price. The only thing to be aware of is that if you have older kids (mine are 9 and 4) The locking/unlocking mechanism is a little difficult for them. I'm sure mine will get used to it. My 9 year old just goes over it but the 4 year old can't do that. So, right now I have to open and close the gate for them. I'm hoping they get used to working it on their own. But, this gate was purchased to keep the dog and the 18 month old in or out so it works great for that. Also, we live in an old house where nothing is straight or square. That being said, this was an easy gate to adapt to fit the opening we needed it for. My husband simply adjusted the height of the hardware installation in the doorway to accommodate. In the past, certain gates just did not work for us because of this.

This gate is easy to install. I had no problem with it. To use it you have to align the top and bottom pegs with the wall sockets. It is very flexible and the length is not fixed. You have to be very careful to get top and bottom just right. I've had easier gates than this. I'm looking to replace it as soon as I find something better. I am replacing it now with a metal gate from elsewhere. It looks stable and easy to use.

Takes both hands to open and close. Would not purchase again, nor recommend.

we have this at the bottom of our staircase and it lasted 5 years before the plastic started to crack. Keep in mind this was opened and closed countless items a day. I am surprised it lasted as long as it did.

Great gate for the price. We have a very strange upper stairway. This is literally the only gate that fit with the height of our stairs (it’s only 29 inches). It’s a bit difficult to get latched closed and it’s definitely easier to use two hands, but it can be done with one if needed. I paired this product with wooden banister kit as I can’t drill into our banisters.
