Q: How long should we be out of the home before reentering the home?

You don't have to leave your home. Just leave the strip in an empty room with the door closed. I prefer leaving it overnight. But it's okay to use around humans & pets for a 4-hour exposure limit (it's EPA approved.) Just put it in a ziplock bag when you're not using it.

Q: If you put in a hall closet persay, will it work in surrounding rooms too?

Good afternoon Each strip effectively treats an area of 5x5. The answer to your question is NO. 1 strip will treat your closet. Please keep in mind that this is not a trap and will not "catch" insects. Our strips release a clean and odorless vapor that will eliminate insects within the treatment space. It is critical to hang our strips in the infested areas. Thanks

Q: can it be used around birds?

I don't recommend using it around birds, but that is because I felt sick with it in the house! THe package directions and the description on Amazon are not the same. The one I read on Amazon said it was safe, but the package directions gave me the idea that you could only safely use it in a house if you keep it in a closet.
