Bohemian Rhapsody [DVD] [2018]

I love watching Bohemian rhapsody it's fantastic film and rami malek does a great job playing Freddie Mercury

I do enjoy this film and on Blu-ray the picture quality is better

The first single that I ever bought as a young teenager was Bohemian Rhapsody, a 45 rpm piece of plastic that got played non stop, and had me singing out loud and moving with the enthusiasm of Freddie Mercury, even if without his ability; I was a Queen fan from that day on. I first went to see the movie Bohemian Rhapsody at the cinema with my wife, it was all I could do to stay seated during the performance, and judging from the movement on the back of my seat i think the lady behind me felt the same way. The movie is tremendously well acted by all actors, but Rami Malek, in my opinion was amazing. The film kept me absorbed throughout, and although quite long, it went by in the blink of an eye. The reason I think the movie has something for everybody, is that it is uplifting, exciting, it has romance, tragedy and comedy. It is a story about a band that truly did change the face of music and was (and still is) loved by so many people worldwide; it shows that fortune favours the brave. I challenge you not to shed a tear when you are watching the live aid concert, male or female. The picture on the 4K edition of this movie was incredible as was the sound through a Bose Soundbar. I would imagine that if you have a full sound system it would be amazing. A lovely addition is the 21 minute full movie version of the Live Aid concert, perfect for when you need a short Queen Fix. I can't pretend to know if every aspect of the film was factual, or how much was dramatic licence. However, I found myself wondering if the film critics had actually watched the same film as me. I know that critics have to read into the plot and between the lines, however, for me it is less about technical excellence and more about emotion; how did I feel whilst I was watching the film and how did I feel when it was over; the answer for the best part was exhilarated.

I read some reviews before I streamed this film and was quite disturbed by the expectations expressed in several negative reviews. I was wondering if the film might be a little too anodyne, however, as many reviewers seemed to enjoy it I was hoping to be entertained and I was not disappointed.. I had no illusions that this was going to be a gritty, in depth biopic. I think I would have been disappointed if it was. I already know as much as I want to know and really don't want any more explicit details of Freddie Mercury's life; what happened was tragic enough. To my mind, Freddie's issues with the other band members, management and his private life were filmed sensitively and without mawkish sentimentality, although there were some emotionally charged moments that brought a lump or two to my throat. For me this film was about the journey, what the band members were trying to achieve and, of course, the fabulous music. I would agree with some reviewers that the timeline of events and songs was a little off but this didn't spoil the film for me as I expected some dramatic licence. However, I cannot agree that the film was sanitised in any way, it was simply a matter of how much you can fit into two hours. I really don't understand why some reviewers thought this film should have been a sort of gritty in depth biopic - you'd need a mini series for that. This film was exactly what it appeared to be; a celebration of a great band and a great singer/showman whose life ended too soon,

Excellent film, good value rental, great acting and well recommended.

Firstly I will point out that I am not a massive Queen fan, I grew up in the 70's and 80's so their music was on the radio all the time and I don't dislike them, I'm just not a 'fan.' Anyway, after watching a few of the recent films like ;Rocket Man' and 'Judy' I felt let down by high budget films that left me with more questions or that I didn't think told enough of their stories. This however was excellent. The only negative I could say was the awful wig 'John Deacon' was wearing! But the rest of the film was just amazing. The acting was great, great singing, a story that had me in tears at the end even though I already knew that ending before the film was even made! The film tells the story from Freddie's first meeting with Queen, and the ends with the infamous live aid performance. I have never seen Rami Malek in anything else so have no idea of his previous performances but wow, he was fantastic in this. I didn't realise until I just googled that Rami wasn't fully singing the vocals, you can't tell, it looks completely genuine, no dodgy miming, all very well performed. So in all it was a fabulous film, well worth a watch
