Barbie Clothes Career Outfits for Ken Doll, Gift for 3 to 8 Year Olds

I just bought this for my granddaughter so i don't want to take out of box. but i noticed the cord for the whistle is open with the two ends not connected. How does the whistle stay on Kens neck with it open like that? The picture on line shows it that way too so it must be intended to be that way. At first i thought it was broke when i looked in package. the cord does not feel like you can twist it to keep the ends together.
