The New Grandparents Name Book Hardcover – January 5, 2009

This book is basically what you would expect. It's basically a list of common names and a few variations as well as some names with cultural ties. Some of the are a bit of a stretch like suggesting that a grandfather who golfs could be called Golfpa but when you're putting together 700 names I guess you have to reach on a few. I was pretty surprised at how small the book is. It's about the size of 3x5 or 4x6 photo and not very thick as several pages are just a list of 20-30 names.

This book is so cute! We bought it to announce to my parents that they were going to be grandparents, and they LOVED it! If you know someone who wants a slightly different name than the standard grandma or grandpa, this book is perfect for them. It has sections on cool names, creating your own unique name, names from other cultures, etc. It has been so much for my family to discuss the different names in the book. Some are just hilarious, and others are great contenders. I would recommend this book to any new parents or grandparents!

I found that a name I thought I "thought of" was already an established name.I realized in reading that folks have been called all kinds of non-traditional names, so it's really up to what one wants to be called, realizing that the baby can change all that by what he/she calls you.

My brother conceded he was feeling unsure how he'd react when his first grandchild called him Grandpa or other ageist names, so my wife and I bought him this book to give him some alternatives, sort of as a fun way to jab at his sensitivity. He finds it has great ideas and he's enjoying reading it, but finds himself overwhelmed with the choices. Very nice gift for a new grandparent.

My family has gotten HOURS of entertainment out of this book. Not only to find ideas on what names to use for the new grandparents but also a great laugh!

I bought this book because I am going to be a first time grandmother. Book is small like a child's book - approx 5 1/4 x 5 1/4 inches and there are only 64 pages which includes 2 pages for personal notes. It takes less than 1/2 hour to read the whole book. I enjoyed reading it but it was over priced @ $8.48.

This is a handy little book. The authors did extensive research to find out other names for grandparents, I would have liked some of the definitions to be a little more detailed, but all in all a great book--esp. for new grandparents to be. I don't have grandkids {yet}, but am seriously thinking about what I might want to be called...

I am so glad I opened this book before giving it as a gift. It had writing in it from someone else with the gift page already filled out. Unbelievable.

Bought this for grandma when we were expecting. It worked well enough for what we wanted it for. Many of the suggestions are on the weird or silly side though. Would give it a 3.5 if I could. I checked out a lot of similar books before landing on this one, this was still by far the best of the bunch.
