Dexter Russell is the queen of affrodable kitchen cutlery of all types. I have everything from paring knives to meat cleavers. This bread knife is outstanding. The best thing about these items is that they are dishwasher safe! The handle is a white plastic, and the blades are stainless steel. Bread knives are difficult to sharpen, but --given their task-- why would they ever get dull? Like the bread knife? Wait until you try their filleting knives! And the diamond sharpening wands are great..and actually will put a serious edge onto a knife. I've been a user of their knives for over 20 years. ALL of my knives from that company are still in use by me. I finally had to break down and buy a new sharpening diamond wand.
