Message From A Drum/Cycles/Potlach

Excellent value 3 album set
Interesting label retroworld, releasing lots of out of print music or hard to get hold of items from yesteryear at very reasonable prices and not genre specific either. I get the feeling they were or are connected to the now seemingly defunct Acadia. Anyway here we have Redbones 2nd, 3rd and 7th albums. It might seem like a big jump in order but as B.G.O are releasing the 4th, 5th and 6th albums shortly we have avoided replication. Get this and the B.G.O release and you only need to get their first album for their entire 70s output. The sound on the first two albums which occupy disc one is massive and the fact that they have also included Chant 13th hour twice indicates to me that they have used the Repertoire remasters. Cycles on disc two has not been reissued by Repertoire and the sound is not as loud or dare i say as compressed so instead of having to turn your amp down as on the first disc {which is usually a bad sign} you have more control on how you want to listen. Still, 3 albums and a fairly detailed booklet for less than a tenner represents excellent value..

Come and get your funk / rock.
Underrated funk / rock group. Some real grooves going on here.My only complaint is that the 'Message From A Drum' album has been 'remastered' far too bass heavy and loud that it sounds distorted in places, especially during 'Witch Queen Of New Orleans'. A disaster. Surely this is a fault and a replacement disc should be supplied.
