We All Went on Safari: A Counting Journey through Tanzania

This is such a cute book. I bought it for our safari week and it’s perfect for our preschool class.

Great gift for children.

I read this every year to my classes because not only is it one of the best counting books I've come across, but I love the cultural aspect! Rhymes flow and are natural, plus the children's names are Swahili and you can learn how to count to 10 in Swahili in the back of the book.

My son wants to read this book every night before bed. He picked up counting in Swahili after reading it the first two nights! He likes to name the animals in Swahili as well. Colorful artwork holds his interest as well. I like how the book gives a little insight into culture as well.

Lovely rhyming book with accurate illustrations of the animals, people and terrain. It also contains a glossary with pronunciations of the Swahili and information about the animals, Maasai people, and Tanzania. My only quibble is that the Maasai we met preferred to speak their own language. However, since Swahili is the national language of Tanzania and spoken in several other countries, it is a nice way to introduce the language to children.

I love this book! It's a cute story, nice illustration, and I love that it teaches my baby simple Swahili and interesting things about Tanzania.

A lovely book for all children.

This book is just gorgeous to look at. The artwork is wonderful. I really enjoy cultural books like this.What child wouldn't want to learn how to count such exotic creatures as leopards, lions, ostriches, giraffes, hippos, wildebeests, zebras, warthogs, monkeys, and elephants. It is an extra treat that the swahili names are added too.This is so much better than an ordinary counting book with it's interesting creatures and cultural introduction to Tanzania. A great way to encourage kids to learn about far away places.We combined this book with Mama Panya's Pancakes and had a wonderful time learning about Africa.

Brilliant book with lovely rhyming story going page to page counting animals seen in the plains. Love the illustrations and love the facts on the Masai people and TZ at the end as well as the Swahili numbers, names and words. My 3 year old loves and it’ll be a great resource to study African countries when she’s a bit older too.

Auch werden die Kinder ermuntert zu zählen, denn auf den drei grasenden Giraffen folgen beispielsweise vier anmutige Löwen.Das Buch besticht vor allem durch die liebevollen Illustrationen und den in Reimform verfassten (englischen) Text.

We love this book! I bought it with the hopes of integrating different races and cultures into the images my son sees each day. There is so much to learn from this book; including a variety of animals, the numbers from one to ten, African names, in both English and Swahili. I love the rhyming story and each page has the right amount of words for the attention span of our 18 month old. All in all this book is a keeper and I am sure we will get lots more use out of it as he gets a bit older and understands more and more.
