Be bold and go for it.
These shorts have been around since I was in the military, many moons ago. They're still as light and airy as can be, although you might get some looks because they're more of a 70s length than a 2020s length. They're made for running in, and nothing beats them for that. The fabric is a little see-through in the sunlight, but the built-in banana hammock keeps the twig and berries from flopping around or being on display. Now if that was too tight on you and you cut it out, you're probably going to be safe indoors, but in the sun at the beach, you might need bail money. There are no pockets other than a small key pocket on the inside of the waistband. The waistband is stretchy and very accommodating; for example, I'm a 38 waist but can still wear my size L's just fine, but my XL's are more comfy. Since the fabric dries in a couple of minutes, these would probably also make a fine swimsuit. Great shorts, but for the bold since they're a little short for today's style.

Best underwear I've probably ever purchased. Quick dry, hard-wearing, ultra light, comfortable.
I bought a single pair of these not knowing if I'd like them. The day I received them I ordered the two-pack. I would like to order a 100 pack. These are so comfortable, light, airy, and breathable. I wear them around the house, I've slept in them, and mostly I've been wearing them as daily underwear. I think if I was going to wear them to the gym or some such I'd prefer a size larger, which I might try soon, as I like boxers a bit smaller than top layer gear. Of course I wouldn't also need underwear. I'd stick to dark colors due to the shearness of them in public. They're made of 100% NYLON, which is for me the gold standard for hard-wearing, long lasting shorts and underwear. I first bought the green (nice) then the steel or charcoal (also nice) or whatever and now I'm going to order another 2 pack in brown. Thanks and stay frosty.

best running shorts I have ever owned
These things are so light and airy it almost feels like you are wearing nothing, which is exactly what you want when you are running in summer heat. The built in liner is nice and keeps everything in place during longer runs without any uncomfortable movement. Only heads up is they are definitely on the shorter side compared to what most guys wear these days but once you get used to it you will never want to go back to those long knee length things.

Comfortable Shorts, but Needs More Support
Based on the picture, I expected this to fit tighter than it did. Not terribly baggy, but I like snug like it shows in the product picture. The leg holes are bigger than they show in the picture. I'm about a 34" waist and usually a medium fits me about right in most clothing. So I ordered a medium in these. I now think I should have ordered a small and they may have fit better. The medium waist still has a lot of room to expand, so I'm sure fitting into the small would not be a problem. I may order a small soon to try that out. If I do, I'll update this review. What I do like about them is they are very thin. In fact, a bit see-through. More on that in a bit. But you feel like you barely have anything on, they are so thin. Even more so when you pair them with a thong. So they are extremely comfortable. I like wearing them around the house and some appropriate outings. I don't run much, but I do Zumba. They worked well for that purpose, but due to the shortness, I wouldn't use them for Pilates or Yoga--some positions would show off too much. I'm sure they'd work well for running, their designated purpose, and probably for weight lifting, though certain exercises could also reveal what's "under the hood" too. The other negative I noticed is the inner liner is not very supportive. Elastic leg holes in the liner will prevent anything from falling out, but it will all be bouncing around down there as you jog or jump in Zumba. For those activities you'll need to add in some supportive underwear if you want to keep things orderly while doing anything bouncy. One warning on the last point. I cut the liner out since I was going to use my own underwear for these. In hindsight, I think it would have been better to have left the liner in and just put in on over my underwear. Mainly because the material is already a bit see-through. Cutting out the liner makes them more so. In general, one cannot see much detail, but if you end up getting back-lit, people happening to notice will be treated to the outline of your body beneath the shorts. If they get up close, for whatever reason, they might pick out shapes depending on the lighting. If I had left the liner in, that would not be possible. Of course, some may consider that a good feature rather than a problem. Depends on your modesty level. Also, it should go without saying, these shorts are very short. If you want something going past mid-thigh, or even reaching mid-thigh, these are not the shorts you are looking for. They are exactly as short as they look in the produce picture. I find it strange people will complain about how short they are, as if it wasn't obvious that they were from the picture and description. All in all, I like these shorts and will likely try a small on for size, and leave the liner in even if it isn't needed for anything else than keeping things more hidden. Update: 6/9/16 I did order the small version of these shorts in navy blue. With my 34" waist, they fit perfectly as I had expected from what I saw from the mode wearing them. Much less baggy than the medium. Exactly what I wanted. They've become my new favorite shorts to wear. While the inner liner is snugger than in the medium, so it doesn't feel I'm left dangling with no support, there is still a lot of room for movement. So jogging or other exercises requiring up and down movements will need some additional supportive underwear if you don't want things bouncing all over the place down there. But just for hanging around the house or non-jumping activities, the inner liner alone is fine. Only warning, if you do get excited, it will be obvious as the liner has no resistance to hold things close to your body. But it does have decent elastic leg-holes so you don't have to worry about anything falling out and being visible. Even at this size smaller, the leg-hole elastic is not too tight, but it is effective. So at least based on my experience, if you like some bagginess to your shorts, get the size you normally buy. But if you want to have it more snug and less gaps around the legs as it shows in the product picture, go a size down. It should still be comfortable around the waist and leg holes, assuming your thighs aren't unusually large. Your mileage may vary, but I'm very happy with the small size. Comfortable and a perfect fit. My only criticism still remaining is the inner liner, while doing good at keeping my stuff in, offers no real support for running, which is its primary designed purpose. But easily solved by extra underwear. And a reminder to not cut out the liner which will make them even more "see-through" than they are against a back-light, unless that is what you really want.

Where have these magical shorts been all my life?
First of all, why haven't I heard of these until now? These 'silky' shorts are the bees knees in terms of comfort, mobility and for the price point I honestly believe that you won't be able to find any better running/PT shorts. Before these shorts I used to wear puma or nike running shorts that almost reached my knees and didn't have any internet like these do. My eagle was able to spread its wings while running because I got 4G wifi internet with these shorts on, and at first I was a bit shy about my freedom lump showing, but then I realized soon after finishing my 8 mile PT morning run my legs got a lot bigger and tanner. It's as though these shorts had given me extra strength (perhaps not physically) but mentally and it really shows in all of my workouts. I can now lift 10 pounds without tearing a hamstring, and I can finally walk up the stairs to reach my refrigerator for an ice cold american beer. Since I bought them I have worn them for two weeks straight and they look really good with all the MAN stains and all of my friends have been commenting on how big my legs are looking now that I have tiny shorts. It is a confidence boosting pair of freedom panties and just yesterday I got a lot of comments from old filipino ladies who asked me about my calves and training regimen. Perhaps i'll break a new record and be able to run faster this week because I have silkies. They are also really great for swimming as well. I tested them out in the warm pacific ocean a couple days ago and when you get your shorts wet, that's when your eagle really spreads its wings. The shorts become see through and then they stick to your legs like a hot dog to a filthy moist bun and depending on the color you chose, they become see-through! I will never buy another pair of regular running shorts because 'merica. If you like freedom, and other shorts are just too large for you, get these ones. I normally wear a size 30-32" waist size and the medium fit perfectly, but I could even fit into a small if I wanted a snug fit. Buy these today. You won't regret it. P.S. Oh, and consider putting anti-chafe gel between your thighs if you have big thighs like me and you're going to run more than 9 miles in these on a 90-100+ degree sunny day or else you're going to start a fire between those thunder thighs...don't burn that eagle...

sensibly short
I have spent a great deal of time looking for shorts like this. All the major brands has nothing sensibly short these days due to the fashion trend of shorts that hangs down to your knees. Hay with more and more global population are obese this fashion tide seems no end in sight. In recent years I have better luck finding my shorts in Asia trips. Even then finding one with the right cut and build quality is more miss than hit. I was close to giving up looking on Amazon until I see this. I was very skeptical so I order only one to see. It exceeded my expectation. I am 6’ 150 lb with 32 waist. Thinking these are likely from China where no name brands for domestic market tends to be sized very small I ordered L. It fits me nearly perfectly except the waist band feels slightly loose. The cut is very nice with about 2 ¼” inseam. Without the excessive pleats it does not have the all too common oversized miniskirt appearance. The waist band on the front wears very close to my belly button and I like that. There is no ugly brand logo which is nice. The tiny pocket is barely big enough for a small house key and is typically insecure. The stitching quality is as good as the major brands costing three times more. Yes, running shorts are the biggest rip-offs from the usual suspects. The key is to buy them off season. These are made in El Salvador. Sold and shipped by Amazon. I ordered the graphite instead of my usual black and very glad with the choice. Thankfully it is not the usual sick light grey but quite blackish as graphite should. The fabrics of outside and the liner look and feel identical. They are very soft and supple, and very comfortable to the skin. The liner’s cut is perfect everywhere. It is made of three panels instead of the common two. None of the common cutting across the cheeks at the back feeling. The elastics around the legs as well feel nice and well stitched and sized. The liner breaths well so these are perfect for the hottest of weather. I test worn it for hours around the house and this is one of the most comfortable shorts I have bought in recent time. There is no bothersome static cling. Wanting a perfect fit, I am ordering a medium of the same color. If medium does not feel too tight I will a few. Amazon has a winner here in price as well as quality. They are perfect for wearing around the house as well as active activities. A good small purchase makes me smile.

Training for Half-Marathon. Good shorts but not great.
I want to really really like these shorts. Alas, I can only give it 3 stars. Albeit i want to give it more. They run somewhat small. I'm 5'8" 178 lbs with a 34" waist. What can I say but I love me some craft beer, hence mah beer belly, but I digress. They run small cuz these are intended for hard core marathoners with no fat. Thats okay. They're pretty good shorts. Very lightweight. However, they tend to ride up my legs. I have large thighs from heavy squat days. I chafe without lube. These shorts will tend to ride up my crotch and inevitably I'll have to break stride and do the froggy hop kickout where I kick out my leg so the short falls back down from my crotch. Either that or I'll have to pull them down. I love how light they are. This lends to them being very sheer. When they get wet they also get clingy. And if you're a heavy sweater like me after 6 or so miles the feel and look like colored saran wrap. When they get like this you're junk is easily outlined. Don't do any jumping jacks. Cuz you will flop around if you know what I mean. My wife can't decide whether she's entertained or offended. I want to like these since they are so cheap but I have a pair of BOA shorts with the split to waist cut and they are what I consider a 5 star running short. Although these are good. The BOAs are perfect for a runner. TLDR: good shorts, very light, very clingy, ride up, shows junk.

I can't get enough of these shorts! So comfy & lightweight.
This is my third purchase of these – my first being a 2pk navy colour size XXL, and the second a black XL. Although the XXL is lovely and loose (my preference over a snug fit), I’m on a slim-down journey anyway, so it will only be a matter of time before XLs will be more to my liking. Apart from learning at that stage that Soffe Silkies are the best shorts I’d ever owned (I’ve worn them every day since I received my first pair, including workouts & swimming on most of those days), I learned that you can be a size-out and still be absolutely comfortable! I decided I wanted to try some of the other colours (OD Green in this instance) and I will continue to order XLs as they will no doubt become looser on me over the coming months. I’ve never liked the feel of liners (I trust & much prefer the feel of my own briefs) so I ended up removing it, although the attached photos are a mix of pre & post liner removal. Fabric: As per my previous reviews, the fabric is super lightweight – you hardly know you’re wearing it. It is the non-breathing nylon type fabric (i.e. not actually moisture-wicking), but unless you’re sitting down continuously with your leg holes clamped to your thighs, plenty of air still circulates around between the fabric and your skin (which is why I suspect they still claim it to be “breathable”). My first pair of Soffe Silkies were worn for approx 14hrs on most days, including for at least an hour each in the gym and pool, and still show no real signs of deterioration to date so I know these new black ones will last well too. They dry in a few mins, except for the elastic/waist band, which takes a while longer depending on the weather/breeze. Colour: Well, they look like the Seller’s OD Green photo to me, just like in the ad, but I’m not really into colours and fashion etc. I just thought I’d try a different colour to my previous pairs. This OD Green pair (or at least the fabric/colour alone) is definitely more more sheer than my navy & black pairs, but a little more obvious with the XL being a more form-fitting size for me (i.e. the looseness of the fabric in size XXL does help reduce some sheerness to a degree). Cut/fit: Having replaced the liner with my own briefs, I’ve found the XL is just as comfortable on me as the XXL! I think removing the liner makes them feel better on because they’re about half the weight and also more accommodating of my shape. They’re not “snug” per se but I also wouldn’t call them baggy because there’s still plenty of room for the air to circulate. When on, I’m no more aware of them than I am with my XXL pair. I’m a big guy with very chunky legs who recently (within the last few weeks) moved from ~107cms (42”) to 102cm (40”) & most people would say these XLs fit me perfectly. They still don’t feel too loose/tight. I am a little less aware of the crotch seam than with the XXL because it doesn’t hang down as much, but the fabric is so light and airy anyway that it didn’t chaff or annoy me with the XXL either. Range of motion with the XL is still excellent – same as the XXL. Pockets: Obviously no different to the XXL - I’d prefer a slightly larger zip-pocket close to the waist band. The little fob-pocket with these is not confidence-inspiring when it comes to security and struggles to fit a car key. If you’re staying upright gravity would keep the key in place, but I just don’t have the same confidence when swimming or in some reclined work-out positions. Active/Exercise: Same as the XXL - fantastic! I will never go back to any gym/swim short that is heavier or longer than these, they’re just so freeing. These keep me cool enough down there and the waist band keeps the shorts of both sizes in place without any issues, including when swimming (I wonder how much that is helped by shedding the weight/drag of the inner liner?). Sheerness & Modesty: Regardless of the colour you choose, the fabric is sheer by nature (as you can see from the photos), however, with the black & navy ones I’ve used so far, the degree of sheerness varies considerably according to the angle/brightness of the light, and surprisingly they seem less sheer when wet and clinging to my skin (probably because the light can’t get in behind it?). It’s inevitable that the liner (or your briefs, if you’re a linerless man like me) WILL be seen in every detail at times by others. They are a loose/airy leg-fit (unless you get a couple of sizes smaller than your usual size), so just be mindful of that when in sitting/lying positions. Another thing to be mindful of with the lighter colours (and certainly these OD Green ones) is that the liner is made from exactly the same fabric as the outer shell, so there comes a point with the lighter colours (OD Green included) where, given the right conditions, two layers of the fabric still won’t fully protect you your parts from being seen. Tthese shorts are revealing in multiple ways, and you will never completely avoid that, but if you’re like me and naturally self-conscious, I’d really like to encourage you to at least try these. I’ve discovered by accident that they’re my super-power. That’s because every time I walk out of the house with these on, my anxiety increases, meaning the adrenaline is abundant, which in turn actually comes in really handy when working out at the gym or swimming! That is, I think my workout/swimming performance has significantly increased not just because of the freedom that lightweight shorts give me, but also because my veins are full of adrenaline whenever I wear them in public. It’s quite bizarre really - I look forward to wearing these wonderfully comfortable shorts so much that I now also dread wearing anything else despite how self-conscious they make me, but it’s been so good for my health and slimming regime, not to mention the flow-on of far-improved mental health. I just wear longer shirts over the top when elsewhere. Conclusion/Summary: I give these five stars, because of the way they’ve helped me turn my health/fitness around so much. Despite naturally being a very self conscious person, I’m now absolutely a convert to lightweight gym/running shorts, and can’t wait to try some of the other colours (even the lighter ones!).
