It is regular boys size. Medium fit my child from approximately age seven to nine.

Q: Would these fit a 12 yro who wears a 14/16 in youth - small/med adult clothing?

Yes they would. My son is 12 and wears youth 18/20 and XL clothing. I purchased these in XL.

I bought these for my great nephew, he is 8 yrs old now and he's very slim, but solid. He weighs between 45 - 48 pounds. If your son is a little heavier, I would get the medium. These kids now-a-days grow like weeds, and if they are a little big, they won't be for too long. I hope this helps.
