Darker: Fifty Shades Darker as Told by Christian (Fifty Shades of Grey Series)

To all of the critical reviewers here, think please real hard here. Did you honestly expect James to write an entire new novel based from Christian's POV? Does anyone not realize all that this author gifted us with? 3 books with Ana's POV, two movies and the last to be given to us in February 2018 I believe, and if that's not enough, she's now giving us 3 MORE books from Christian's POV. Reviewers asked, begged and pleaded for MORE and she so graciously delivered. How could you really expect her to re-write such an incredible story? In Darker, James gave us every single conversation and thought we wondered about, his perspective in specific detail with conversations with Taylor, Leila at Ana's apartment, Dr. Flynn, detailed dreams of his awful abusive childhood, Elena and lets not forget with Grace when she finds out her best friend sexually abused her son at the young age of fifteen for YEARS! Do you realize how difficult it is for James to come up with stuff? She had to mirror Ana's POV and dialogue otherwise we'd have a different story. She was so generous to gift us with all of this because many of us loved this couple so much and always will. Be grateful people. Now, my opinion and I was not gifted a copy nor am I a friend of James' however, I love Christian after this read more so now than ever. He is so vulnerable in Darker, so lovable, so intelligent yet immature in other areas like a scared little boy. As a mother of five sons, James' words when Christian admits to himself wanting Grace his adoptive mother to hold him and when he realizes she really does love him, just beautiful and heartfelt as a mother of 5 sons. These are not womens words as someone wrote in there 1 or 2* review, claiming he sounds like a woman, this is a man's perspective and yes they do feel too, just because they're not all so emotional or forthcoming with their feelings or thoughts doesn't mean they don't have them and that some men or boys don't express them. Christian went through a lot as a child from birth to four, then through 15 years old he was angry, didn't speak for sometime after the adoption until Mia came into their home, let's not forget the brawls and being expelled from schools... Elena not only lures him into sex but she physically abuses him as well. His thoughts are not going to be of the normal man because let's face it, a normal man would not have been through what he has. Take him out of that category and please stop judging James so harshly. I, for one, am so grateful that she's gifted us with MORE, I hope it keeps coming. I'd love another book with their future including all of their children and Elliot and Kate's but I doubt we'll get it because, truthfully, writing what James does is not an easy trade. $10 for the Kindle download, sorry but IMO it's worth it. I knew going in what we were getting...did you not read Grey? Same thing. I. Loved. It!!! All of the conversations I wondered about James gave us his words and thoughts. I especially love the words with Grace and Elena, I seriously would love to kick Elena's butt!!! If one of my friend's did that to one of my sons?! I won't even go there.

I was late to the game reading FSOG series and GREY and DARKER. I had no idea FSOG was a book series. I saw all the movies and was talking to my friend when she told me that the movies were based on a series of books and that there was also a book in Christian’s POV. I did not like to read and these books would be my first romance novels I’ve ever read. Because I liked the movies so much it was easy for my friend to talk me into buying the series plus Grey. I must’ve read the books at least 5 times in a row before I found Darker and just as I liked Christian’s POV in Grey better than Anna POV in FSOG I liked Darker much more than FSD. You definitely have to read the FSOG Series before reading Christian’s POV to understand what Christian’s books are about, but once I had Grey and Darker I never went back to FSOG AND FSD. of course like I said I already read the books before Darker about 5 times. Once I had Darker I read the books 3 more times. I didn’t even know where to look for other romance novels until I figured out I could use my daughter’s kindle and use Amazon to find books online and immediately get the books downloaded. So my review of Darker is this. I loved hearing Christian’s vulnerability and doubts that Anna could love all of him including his secrets. It filled in a lot of gaps from FSD. I loved seeing the way he felt and his insecurities about Anna because she left him. All of Christian’s thoughts is what made me enjoy these books because you truly didn’t know Christian until these were written. I related to Christian better than I did Anna. Thank you Erika for writing these books

Enjoyed this book. I liked getting to see things from Christian's perspective.

This is the re-telling of Fifty Shades Darker from Christian Grey’s POV. As much as I loved the book from Anastasia’s point of view, this book retelling by Christian really stuck with me. The inner dialogue that he has with himself is so raw and gritty. I loved it. The inner turmoil he has with being good enough for Anastasia and the fear he has of telling her about his demons and what he feels drive him. His interaction with Mrs. Robinson, I wished he had pushed her away sooner and harder, but if you read Fifty Shades Darker, you essentially know what happens. With this second book, we see Christian opening up more to Anastasia and he struggles with his feelings of abandonment and being deserving of love and loving in return. Not gonna lie here, I liked these retellings from Christian’s point of view better than I liked the originals. I cannot wait to see what Ms. James has in store with the final retelling of the final book in the FSOG trilogy.

Darker is book 2 in a series of books by EL James which is a retelling of her 50 Shades of Grey series from the perspective of Christian Grey. The book provides the context that many people were missing in the first series and answers questions about what Grey was thinking during different scenes. Some of the dialogue, like the emails, is a direct copy of what was stated in the original series, which is not that surprising since it is literally the same conversation. However, the intriguing part is finding out what happens with Christian when Ana is out of the room. Because of the altered perspective we see more of who Christian is as a person. There are flashbacks to different points in his life which provided a basis for his behavior. The story also goes into more depth about how Elena, Leila, Ros and even Andrea, fit into his life. There is some foreshadowing about book three which is creatively tucked in. This version of the series is more polished than the original. The silliness of Ana's internal Goddess has been replaced with a more sophisticated internal dialogue and Christians juvenile attitude is directly addressed. As a person, it's easier to connect with Christian and some of his emotional struggles as he works through his demons. Even with this more depth understanding, there were still some missed opportunities. Taylor and Gail come across as almost third string characters, which given their roles I would have thought they would have been more fleshed out. Additionally, some interactions that happened in the first series were completely skipped in this one. The one I'm specifically thinking about is a missed opportunity because it could have hinted to a spin-off book. Overall I enjoyed the story and the new perspective. I look forward to reading book three.

I'm such a huge fan of E.L James the fifty shades series has come to be one of my top reads and when I found out she was writing it in Mr. Greys point of view I became overjoyed . Was not disappointed with how it turned out which wasn't a surprise because of how much I liked Grey . I'll highly recommend that you read the trilogy before you begin the ones in Christians point of view . Really enjoyed seeing things through the heroes eyes and the way he thinks about certain events . It was also interesting to see little flashbacks of his past some dark while other ones were light . I seriously still detest Mrs. Robinson even more so in this and those who have read Fifty Shades Darker you know that scene were you want to high five Grace while also slow clapping totally silly grind the whole time while I also felt bad for Grace and the thing she finds out . More emotions came out from reading this two parts had me close to tears it just snuck up on me like BAM . I can't wait to read the next one patiently waiting .... NOT . Warning for those who don't like books with same scenes in a different point of view this isn't for you but for those who don't mind then you will enjoy it as much as I have because you get a inside look on some scenes that we never got to see . hero=10 heroine=10 secondary characters=9 Chemistry=10 steam=10 romance=8 humor= 5 darkness level= 6 action=3 mystery=3 enjoyment= 10 angst= 4 story line=10 Story ending=9 only because we didn't get a sneak peek character development= 10 pacing= 10 cover=10 stars= 5 author= 10 would I recommend this book=yes would I re read this book= yes would I read future books by this author= yes

Absolutely love hearing Christian’s side. Specially because Ana seemed to have things wrong about him in her point of view.

Okay so I’m guilty of hearing how sexual Fifty Shades of Grey was but never got around to reading it. The first movie was coming out and knowing it was a book, of course I had to go read it! I had no idea it was a trilogy plus more, but I read all three books including Grey before the movie came out. Movie is okay, the books are obviously better. Now that was two years ago. I haven’t read the books since then and now the last movie is coming out. I got more excited when I find out Darker is coming out! I immediately pre-ordered it and my obsession is back. I love, love, love this story! And Grey’s version only makes me enjoy it even more. I get to watch them fall in love all over again, through his eyes. It is just as magical as I remember. I don’t care what the critics say, when I talk about this this book, I relish in the romance of it. That’s what appeals the most to me. E.L. James has outdone herself with giving us, emotional women, a glimpse into the less emotional male psyche. And who’s a better muse than the private Christian Grey?! I cannot wait to read Freed (praying that there is one 🤞🏽) so that I can watch Christian fall in love with his son. Now that love, is undeniable. Continue what you’re doing and thank you, on behalf of all the single women and men out there, for giving us hope that there is someone out there who will love us unconditionally ❤️ I recommend to anyone and everyone!

How very disappointing! E L James has announced on TV that there might NOT be a 'FREED' from Christian Greys point of view book published! Maybe 'Christians points of view story' may not sell quite as many copies as the original Fifty Shades Freed but with the vast money earned from the publishing of these books I would have thought that E L JAMES would, at the very least, produce FREED, from Christians point of view story for her 'fans'. Personally, after reading 'Grey' and now 'Darker' I feel that the films really warranted Christians version of the story, because the film revolves entirely around Christians deeply troubled and horrific past, and way of life, also the inclusion of Flynn (his shrink) would have given a clearer insight into why, and just how desperately deep rooted Christians lifestyle has been and how the innocent, beautiful Anastasia eventually changes his way of thinking. He learns to love! Please don't think I didn't enjoy the 'Trilogy', it is a totally different love story to beat any other love stories. I found it fascinating, compelling and so very memorable. The movie; A sincere, dedicated portrayal in the movie, by to brilliant actors, Jamie and Dakota. I really do hope Christians story of 'Freed' 'WILL' be written.... so that the 'FANS'' can complete their collection!!! Considering the vast support by the fans and the after the huge fortunes made so far... YOU CANT LET YOUR FANS DOWN NOW....SURELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : PLEASE NOTE: E L JAMES!!!! GRRRRR!! STILL WAITING!!!!!!!!!!!! still no news on E L JAMES writing 'FREED' ' from Christians point of view!!!! (READ ABOVE) At least E L JAMES wont have to repeat the contract word for word in FREED. (a mistake last time, I think.) We need 'FREED' FROM CHRISTIANS POINT OF VIEW to complete our collection!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BELLO, BELLO BELLO ! Ero scettica, non pensavo che l'autrice dopo 3 libri principali riuscisse a tenere alto l'interesse, considerando che le scene che vivono Ana e Christian sono uguali....invece è stupendo e non riesco a smettere di leggerli ! Il problema sarà quando arriverò alla fine del terzo e finirà. :D

J’ai adoré ce livre on découvre les pensées du personnage principal et aussi on a un aperçu de son point de vue sur les événements du 1er livre ce qui permet de mieux comprendre ce personnage. Dommage qu’il n’y ai pas eu de suite car si on a aimé la triologie originale on veut on savoir plus sur ce qu’il pense à certains moments clefs du troisième tome. On a toujours eu le point de vue d’Ana pendant 3 livres et la c’est le moment de découvrir ce qu’il se passe dans sa tête. Son personnage est assez complexe pour mériter plus de pages ;)

No need to say that the books are definitely better than the movies. Darker is my favorite of the trilogy and I loved this one especially since it shows a completely different side than ana’s, some parts repeat, but most of the book is on his thoughts and it deepens on his work
