The salinity tester seems to work well. I tested tap, RO, ice maker, and outdoor spigot water looking for traces of salt. My main focus was outdoor spigot water, hoping I was not watering outdoor plants with low levels of salty water, slowing killing those plants. Whew, the outdoor water is fine, as is the rest of the water around the house. Finding no salt in all my testing, I dissolved some salt in RO water and tested again. Yep, there was a measurable concentration of salt. Nice. I am confident in the tester and the results, though I may never use it again. I will probably just keep the tester and loan it out or give it away, sort of a 'pay it forward' effort. The tester was boxed and package well. I did install the batteries backwards on the first try, so watch out for that. The selector buttons take a little time to figure out, just press and release in normal use and to turn on/off. Do not press and hold unless entering a special function. Nice tool and I am glad I ordered it. Thanks!

I have been struggling with measuring PPM using pen type (Vivosun) salinity meter. This refractometer (Model AZ 8372) solved my problem. The pen type salinity meter that I have cannot read salinity greater than 9999 ppm which is moreover not accurate. This refractometer can read very high salinity of prepared NaCl solution quite accurately. I have used it to measure salinity of 4000 PPM to 44000 PPM in the last couple of days. For the price, it is a 5 star.

The meter seems to give accurate readings after following directions to set up which can be complicated. It is necessary to dip the probes in a solution or distilled water before and after use. 30 mins prior if you haven’t used it for a while. I don’t care much about the temp settings so I didn’t bother checking it for accuracy. I only care about salinity to measure my pool water. There are steps to follow and ranges for proper calibration if needed. It takes 4x LR44 batteries which I must have in storage in case I run out. I remove it after using to make it last.

Surprisingly, this meter appears to be quite accurate after testing a couple of samples of known salinity.

DO NOT USE IN AN AQUARIUM! S.g reading says 1.015 is equal to 34 PPT. Meanwhile a 34 PPT reading is equal to a 1.040 s.g reading on a REAL refractometer. The only thing accurate on this salinity meter is the temperature which is still off by .5F. Don't buy if you want your corals and fish to live!

I am using this to measure the salinity of my girlfriend's blood for home hemo dialysis and Im getting PPM readings about 1000ppm lower than her lab results from the same day. I attempted to recalibrate it but according to the destructions, it only lets you go 20% higher than its calibrated for out of the box. It says that if the calibration is more than 20% off (which I cant guarantee its not due to the fact I'm measuring blood not straight pool water) it should be replaced. Well I just got this thing and doubt it needs to be replaced so soon so maybe its my fault. Either way it doesnt read blood properly so dont try it. So 3 stars I gueeeess? I dont want to be too negative but I cant be too positive either.

Very easy to use and read. Changing from Deg C to Deg F took some digging in the user manual, but was straight forward. I assume the calibration is good out of the box. I will post additional review if it turns out otherwise. Used to check salt level in pool.

Wanted to check the salinity of my drinking water as I have a water softener that adds salt to the system. Unsoftened - 284ppm salt Softened - 292 ppm salt (softener adds 335ppm to unsoftened water in my system) Rainwater check - 100ppm None of that seems logical.

Ich benutze des Mess-Stift zum ermitteln des Salzgehalts in unserem Pool. Um die Genauigkeit zu testen, habe ich eine definierte Salzlösung angesetzt, 4g NaCl aufgelöst in 1L Wasser. Das Gerät zeigte mir genau 0,4% Salzgehalt an. Die Anzeige-Einheit lässt sich auch von % auf ppm umstellen. Da das Gerät bereits im Auslieferungszustand genau den erwarteten Wert angezeigt hat, muss ich es vermutlich erst nach längerer Benutzung ggf. mal kalibrieren. Für den niedrigen Preis scheint das kleine Ding wirklich top zu sein. Andere Nutzer berichteten davon, dass sich das Gerät nicht ausschalten lasse, auch nicht mit der Ausschaltautomatik. Beides funktioniert bei meinem Modell (AZ 8372)
