The faux leather backing is sturdy yet flexible and this Bible lays flat great. The notes are exactly the level I was looking for and do a great job at describing the cultural context of a particular verse, other verses to refer to for the same theme, and even alternate translations of a particular word. As a rather literal translation of ancient Biblical texts this is so useful, and the ESV translation captures the poetry and beauty, but doesn't always make for light reading. You'll have to read it slowly and revisit much of what you've covered to squeeze the interpretation out of it but you won't regret it.

Bought as a gift for someone and they really liked it. I have a similar study Bible from years ago and this one is a lot thinner than my previous one (and weighs a lot less). There are lots of extra bits of information which can really help dive deeper into the Bible and help understand better what the authors of each book is saying.
