Gil Elvgren: The Complete Pin-Ups [Charles G Martignette & Louis K Meisel, illustrated by Gil Elvgren:] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Gil Elvgren: The Complete Pin-Ups Review: THE MOST COMPLETE COLLECTION OF ELVGREN'S WORK, BEAUTIFULLY PRINTED FROM TASCHEN BOOKS - This is, unlike other collections of Elvgren's pin-up work, his "complete" work. Obviously there's more of his work squired away somewhere, or forgotten about in someone's attic, or sitting in some collector's jealousy guarded private library, that only he and his close friends/fellow collectors are able to view. But that's okay-because this edition from Taschen Books is wonderful. It's full of Elvgren's monthly calendar work, and many other pieces of his art. There's a few books out there that have a lot of his work (plus his yearly calendars for sale), but none come close to collecting almost everything he did. The essays on Elvgren, his work, and the different periods are succinct, informative and enjoyable to read, and add to the overall enjoyment of his work. The book is laid out chronologically (1940's, 50's, 60's, etc), and include his miscellaneous and advertising work. The printing is up to the usual Taschen standards-making this book the one to have for a good overview of Elvgren's work. It's still available as a "new" book at good prices (especially for a hardcover), so now's the time to grab one-before they're gone and/or the price goes up as they do. Elvgren's pin-up work (even though it's from a distinct period in American pictorial history) is timeless. Nothing remotely "dirty" (though some prudes may think differently-to each his own), just an homage to pretty girls everywhere. Well worth $20.00 or so. Review: A lovely book of Elvgren's illustrations - The book is replete with the illustrations of Gil Elvgrin, and it is a joy to page through.

Shop Simpler sent damaged book. Great otherwise.
The book is great and just what i was looking for, however it arrived heavily torn and wrinkled in several places...

Elvgren - a fascinating illustrator
Eye candy supreme. Idealized objectification, totally PC for the day. Some of the original paintings sell for big bucks now, lots of collector interest (and probably speculation.) He is not a Rockwell, but the side-by-sides of working photographs and finished illustrations are very interesting. It would have been great to be a fly on the wall in his studio, to see his interaction with the models and his working technique. Good history in the book. He made a few models famous. Today he would make a super subject for a reality program - could make more in TV money than from the illustrations. "Gil at Work" would be amazing, wearing his tie while painting.
