Gave this to sister in assisted living several months ago. Still working. Quite the conversation piece. She uses it intermittently. I'd rethink giving this to a 2 yr. old. I wouldn't want a child to put the hamster in his/her mouth. While the plastic bubble is somewhat difficult to open, if it's dropped on a hard surface it could come open and the hamster get out. It is cute, however, to watch the hamster run on the floor without the plastic bubble, but is a pain when it gets stuck behind furniture. Bottom line - I'd wait until the child is a little older for this toy.

The Happy Hamster takes two AAA batteries. And yes, it comes with working batteries already inside.
