Excellent condition and very good story set in the 60’s
Another fast paced book of life on the street, and very accurate for it’s time and place. This IS how it was back then. If you are interested in reading one of the earlier, classic Goines, about ‘life on the street in the sixties ghetto’ this is a great place to start.

The Best
I remember reading this book when I was a teenager. It was my Uncles book that I found in his desk. I took it home and read it that night when I was suppose to be sleeping. I returned it the next day and that’s when I fell in love with any and everything written by Donald Goines. I’m rebuilding my collection. Lost my originals in a flood. Bestselling Author.

Page Turner Indeed.
So AshleySaysSo on YT brought me here when she did a video over the author’s life. I have never heard of him (he passed before I was born). From her video, I decided to go buy one of his books and “hooked” is an understatement. I chose “Black Girl Lost” 1st as the title peaked my interest (and it was the 1sr book that popped up in my search). The main protagonist (Sandra) came from a mother who didn’t care not one lick for her precious daughter. She wasn’t protected, nor was she shown love from the drunk the drunk that birthed her. I respected the store clerk that did allow her to come by and be somewhat of a father figure to her. When she got with Chink, he was a protector for her and I hated their love story ended as it did. As the book ended, I was feeling left off a bit (like what was Sandra’s fate, or what happened with Jimmy?). I’m not sure if there was a part 2 to this particular story, but I am off to the next Donald Goines book.

A good read
This was my first Donald Goines novel. It was a gritty read. I enjoyed it. I have been introduced to a writer of merit and will seek out further books by him.

A Sad Ghetto Love Story
I've had this book for quite awhile and now that I've read it, I can't believe that I was missing out on such a good read. What a sad and tragic 70s ghetto love story! My heart went out to Sandra from the very beginning as she was often left alone by her drunken mother to fend for herself. Sandra endured many things a young girl or any child her age should never have to. Chink an outcast of sorts had a hustle of his own as a means of survival. Sandra witnessed an unexpected incident which ultimately led her to Chink. Soon thereafter, Sandra and Chink became an unlikely couple with a common bond, the struggle of surviving lives of poverty. Although this story takes place back in the day, Sandra proves to be the epitome of a 'ride or die' chick. Mr. Goines was truly a master writer and storyteller that was taken from this world way too soon.

A new Donald Goines fan
I had always known of Donald Goines and his books but had never read any of them and after reading Black Girl Lost I am ashamed it took me so long to start reading his books. One thing I like about the way Donald Goines wrote this book is that you feel he is telling you a story about what he saw and knew where with some books you are just reading a story. I love that era so the 70's language and dialect made the book even more interesting to me. An interesting story, well written, easy to follow and I finished it quickly. I will be buying more Donald Goines books after this.

Absolutely amazing! Did not take me long to finish this story, it is very intriguing well written and seems very realistic. I identified a lot with the main character and enjoyed the book more than I thought I would. Was moved to tears in the ending as it is such a sad but good ending to the story. Love this book, read it years ago but bought it just to have a personal copy for life.

A Heartbreakingly honest story of 2 children, who never stood a chance!
A powerful gritty story of 2 youngsters who never stood a chance.Beginning in their early childhoods, with neglect, drugs, alcohol abuse and violence leading to a graphic and brutal ending.I think this book is an important lesson on how some children are born into situations beyond their control. Which can seriously impact their future choices and advancements in adulthood.
