Art in Felt & Stitch: Creating beautiful works of art using fleece, fibres and threads

I am very impressed with this artists ability to easily write a beautiful book explaining the "how to" of felted landscapes. This is the best book I have ever purchased on this art form. Seriously...her explanations, descriptions, and colored pictures are very easy to follow. Every page of this book is very worth while. Love that she includes definitions of techniques and tools. She explains all the different forms of wool, silks, and many other fibers for felting. The pictures of the exact tools necessary to be successful at felting landscapes is very complete and nice to be able to actually see. She further explains the "why" and "how" of each tool. I have already done some felted landscapes before purchasing her book. After reading it from cover to cover I discovered where I was making mistakes and learned how to remedy them. Quickly and very easily I might add. I wish that I had had a book such as this years ago. I find that sometimes artists tell you only the bare bones of different art techniques. Refreshing that this wonderful artist shares everything she can with her readers. This book also has the best pictures of proper technique that I have ever seen before. This book is an absolute must for anyone who wants to work at and enjoys felting their own art pieces. I highly recommend it to others and will be giving it as a gift to friends and family who want to learn this art form. Her completed felted landscape are truly beautiful. I would rate this book as a true treasure! I will be keeping it to add to my personal library of "keepers"!

I consider myself an intermediate level felt-maker and have been looking about for books and information to take myself to the next level as I become more serious about my art/craft in accordance to what attracts me and inspires me. In this case, I have found that I am more interested in "painterly" pieces of felt, rather than things like slippers, vessels or nuno felt-making. I stumbled upon this book and thank goodness for the "look inside" opportunity. One glance and I knew this was the book for me. If you are looking for a very detailed guide to wet-felting or needle-felting or embellishments, you should probably get another more comprehensive yet basic book than this as a supplement. There are several good ones available through Amazon,again with the "look inside" feature. If you aren't yet ready to splurge, try to find the books which interest you at the library (a fantastic resource) to see if the book has the content and information you need, presented in a way that works for you. I think this book is more suited to someone with some felt-making experience (though not absolutely: this is a visual feast for the eyes and just fun to look through)who is looking to expand one's skills in this direction: towards pictorial felt compositions. I love watercolor painting as a medium and dabble a bit but I find it very challenging. Felting has been an unexpected blessing to me--not that it is "easier" than painting, but that its dimensional and tactile nature is more exciting and rewarding to me. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves beautiful textiles, with that one small caveat: it is not a "how to make felt" basic book though there is instruction. To me this is more an idea book and one to ignite inspiration. Gorgeous.

I am very happy indeed that I bought this beautiful book. It contains wonderful works made by the artist, using colour and texture to create impressionist works of landscapes, nature and still lives. It also has detailed projects with excellent instructions and stage by stage photos, so that you can learn to make similar small works. Moy Mackay shows not only how to make up the felt art, mainly wet felting but also needle felting, but how to embellish it with stitching both by machine and by hand. This is a book to drool over and to use as a practical guide. A quality product in all senses.

What a beautiful book...the work depicted in it is breathtaking and those photos make it worth buying even without any instructions. I'd love to see these in person. I reluctantly took off one star as I was somewhat disappointed to see that there's a good bit of wet felting involved which I don't have the supplies or space (or interest) to do, but there are plenty of needlefelting and embellishing techniques as well. Very inspirational!

Are there enough synonyms like fabulous, fantastic, excellent, tremendous to say how much I appreciate this book? I've been interested in working in wool felt for a year, but wasn't sure how to get started until I saw a Moy MacKay painting. Then I found the book in Amazon and waited on tenterhooks until it came. Not only are the paintings wonderful, but Moy MacKay gives step-by-step instructions that are easy to follow for different projects. It's at the top of my list as the most inspiring art book I've ever read. I'm almost finished with my second project and plan to do many more, although I have a lot to learn to achieve the same results as Moy MacKay.I hope she keeps writing more books like this one.

I have been experimenting with various felting techniques over the last year and realized that what I wanted to be able to do was" paint with the fiber". Well this book is certainly proof that it can be done and boy does Moy Mac Kay do it well. While the more formal subject matter of Moys works are not what I am interested in per say, they are absolutely beautiful. Her use of color is spectacular . Every project is explained in detail and more importantly photographed in full AND up close to be able to see how she creates fine details in the finished works. She takes you through the felting process and then the refining processes using needle felting and machine stitching and finally hand stitching. I am truly inspired. Purchased this as a gift for a friend who likes to sew and make everything from clothing to ornaments. She loved this book!

This is an exquisite book by a fine textile artist. It's my third book on felting and I finally hit the jackpot with this one. The techniques are presented in step-by step photos and are a world ahead of the beginner books; the artist shows in-depth knowledge of color, blending and contrast that would be applicable to fine painting. While I'm not at all sure I have the skill to produce anything near the caliber presented here, I'm on fire to try! I don't want to copy any of the projects presented, and I'm sure that's not the purpose of the author. But the techniques and effects are something I can use as a starting point to create my own fiber arts. (And if not, I can still enjoy the art works presented here!)

Moy MacKay is an artist in every way. And this book is like eye candy for fibre artists. Her felt pictures are astoundingly beautiful and inspiring. And she shares her techniques in detail through clear directions and pictures. If you want to take felting beyond the usual articles of clothing into a whole new realm, read this book as an example of the extraordinary work that can be produced using this lovely medium.

Ergänzungen mit Perlen, etc. Sehr empfehlenswert für alle, die einmal ein Bild n Wollfilz schaffen wollen.
