Excellent book. Unacceptable printing.
Update:It seems I can't leave separate reviews for the hardcover and paperback. I returned the poorly printed paperback and ordered the hardcover as replacement. I recommend the hardcover.Image print quality in the hardcover is acceptable-to-good, if not great. The graphic designer did excellent work with the layout-- the book is easy to scan, and pleasing to the eye. I wish I could leave a five star review, and probably would had I not seen the paperback version._____________I bought this book based on reviews of lush imagery, but couldn't enjoy it because of the muddy print quality. Details were lost in blurriness and poor contrast, particularly on dark objects (half the examples). I really wanted to keep this book, and held off for a day in case I was being too picky... But it looked unforgivably wrong in any lighting.I wonder if anyone else has had this experience and given it as a gift without really looking, or blamed their eyesight. It seems unlikely that a printing issue would affect just the one book I happened to purchase.I don't want to discourage anyone from buying a GOOD copy of this book; it's well-written, inspirational, and perfect for someone like myself who would prefer to learn broadly-applicable techniques rather than be walked through making a specific item. However, you deserve to be able to see those beautiful examples as they were intended. As a product, a poor printing of an excellent art book fails.Lucky for you, Amazon makes returns easy, if you want to risk it. Maybe yours will come from the same batch as those many happy reviewers'.For my part, I ordered the earlier-released hardcover as a replacement; when it arrives, I will review it separately.

One of my new favorites
I’ve enjoyed this book more than many felting info books. The style of presentation, mixture of topics covered and quality of workmanship as well as teaching are what I’d hoped to find. Thank you!

I'd give it 6 stars
This is one of the rare craft books I own where every project inspires me. Thanks to the popularity of wet felting and nuno felting, there are now scores of books on both topics, and I own several of them. This one stands out. The focus goes beyond making simple items to creating felted fashion. It contains clear instructions about basic and advanced techniques, but the real focus of the book is on adding creative touches to both the fabric and the cut of the finished items. It's a great book for both new and experienced felters and won't move to the back of your bookshelf.

stunning...NOT a how to!
This is an inspiration book, NOT a DIY book.while techniques and occasional how to do its get mentioned, this is a book of inspiration and "who is who" in felting. I have been completely thrilled with this book, but do NOT buy it expecting a "how you as a beginner can do this" if you want that kind of book i suggest Uniquely Felt .Truly inspiring for those of us who felt, and a glorious picture book for people who do not...For people who love textiles and fashion this will be an inspiration for years! i strongly recommend it.

Marvelous Book
A fabulous book for ideas and techniques. Can't wait to put my own spin on some of the projects in this book.

For wet felters who want to felt clothes
1. Although the book contains how to make felt don't think that's enough for learning it! It's a book for people with at least basic wet felting know how. (I always advice learning the basics live and after that you may develop with other tutorials.)2. You have to read this book for the informations because there are pictures of ready felts and only a few drawings to understand the constructions, no step by step photos. But that's absolutely ok an enough! There are templates of a few jackets, shawls, hats and details like making pockets, seams; and you learn how to make templates like these.3. You can learn nuno felting by following the descriptions. My conclusion: If you want to learn how to felt clothes and you already know how wet felting works, first try it with this book instead of travelling far and visiting an expensive course. (You can do this later if this book isn't enough or you want to know more.)Only 4 stars because it's a pity that there is only one photo showing how a felt coat looks on a person. Every other coat is shown only layed down flat or hung.

eye candy
The photographs beautifully show the richness of the felting and the designs are very inspiring; the author clearly loves her work. The instructions, however, are spotty especially for the garments. Some are gratefully clear and given slowly step-by-step; others (the more intricate) are disappointingly missing. Ex: instructions for a lovely Nuno-felt jacket with collar start with basic how-to steps involving what by 3/4 through the book are obvious but fails to even suggest how to make the collar. It strikes me as odd that the author is clear and repetitive with basic steps only to seemingly assume the reader would know how to do the harder parts. It leaves me feeling as though I was given a recipe but a few essential ingredients have been purposefully left out.Visually I often treat myself to studying the photos. Heart be still!

Inspirational Techniques....WHERE?
This book is nothing more than grandma's "brag" book. The book does not contain inspirational and creative techniques for felters. It contains many photos of the authors work, which in my opinion is not masterful. The flower and the spiky brooch look like student work. The instruction is non-existent with the exception of a few line drawings.Without Nuno felting listed in the title, I was also chagrined to find that a good porton of this book delt with this topic. This was a disappointment, There are precious few good felting books out there and this is not one of them.

Her use of colour and different textures is amazing. Can't recommend this book enough
I bought this book together with "500 felt objects". Both of these books are truly inspirational. Lizzie Houghton's explanation of felting techniques, particularly Nuno felting are not only very clear, but give you confidence to "have a go". Her use of colour and different textures is amazing. Can't recommend this book enough!

Lovely book
This is a beautiful book. Gorgeous pictures and lots of reading matter. Not really for a beginner like I am but the pictures have given me lots of inspiration to aspire to work hard at becoming a proficient felter!!!! There are many lovely projects I would like to be able to attempt and finish.

Inspiring
This was one of last year's Christmas presents. I find Lizzie's work inspiring and I never tire of looking through this book to give me a little push to do something a bit different (or try to!).
