Preferred To Natural Calm (and more than 2x as much magnesium!)
Magnesium is a massively important mineral for health, found to be involved in more than 300 bodily processes. The lack of it is linked with almost every major deadly disease (Google my article "50 studies suggest magnesium deficiency is killing us" for the data and meta-analyses on that). In addition to it's life-giving properties, it also is highly relaxing (at the cellular level!). NOTE: NEVER buy magnesium oxide. Studies show it has a 4% absorption rate! Magnesium citrate is the right stuff if you actually want to absorb magnesium into your body. I've used the product Natural Calm (Mag Citrate) for a few yearsโthey're the market leaderโand it's been pretty decent. But I wanted to try this because nothing is added. I've noticed a stronger positive impact from this magnesium, and I have a theory as to why. When Bulk Supplements says this is a pure product, they mean it. I read from another reviewer that Natural calm is ionized magnesium, which is why it dissolves in water. I think Natural Calm adds citric acid to it. ***This magnesium citrate, however, will not dissolve in water***, unless perhaps it is hot or an acidic beverage (which the BulkSupp website said helps it dissolve). That said, I don't mind it not dissolving. I put it in a water bottle and give it a good shake before each sip. Because this is a pure product, I think I gave myself a higher dose of magnesium than typical. With natural calm I used two spoonfuls. With this one, I used one spoonful, and it felt like a lot more than the two spoonfuls of natural calm. But I didn't have any loose stools, so it mustn't have been an excessive amount. You might want to measure it out more carefully than I do, but currently I put 1/2 to 3/4 a spoonful into a bottle of water every night. I sleep well usually, but with this I sleep like a champion. What you're getting here is a tasteless powder that does not dissolve. I like the tasteless nature of this over the tart Natural Calm flavor. This appears to be pure and quality magnesium; I prefer the least-tampered-with products, which this seems to be. And importantly, based on how it makes me feel, it is definitely magnesium and not sand. This product is not sand. Five stars. UPDATE I did some basic math from the nutrition labels of each product, and you'll want to see this if you're after the most bang for your buck. Natural Calm costs $24 for 16 oz. It gives you 100 servings per bottle, and those servings contain 350 mg of magnesium. BulkSupplements costs $22 for 17.6 oz. It gives you 150 servings per bag, and those servings contain 500 mg of magnesium. SO... Natural Calm: 100 servings x 350 mg per serving = 35,000 mg of magnesium per package BulkSupplements: 150 servings x 500 mg per serving = 75,000 mg of magnesium per package That's more than twice as much!

Helpful for anxiety and insomnia. Tasteless, slightly gritty, needs to be stirred to stay in suspension
I have troublesome insomnia, and usually need an Ambien to get me to sleep. I can't take Ambien every night, or it stops working, so I've been experimenting with different relaxing and sedative supplements to help me nod off, and to fight my near-constant anxiety. I also take anti-anxiety medications, and used to be on anti-depressants. I might have to return to the anti-depressants, but I'm interested in managing my mental illness with less medications right now (usually I am on four different scripts at once). I do let my Dr know about everything I'm doing/taking - an important thing to do when you're on prescription medications, since there can be bad interactions. Just be safe! Pros: - Knocks me right out in the evenings (1/2 teaspoon) - works within a half hour. - Calming during the day when I sip it with Inositol. - Zero taste - yay! It's not yucky. :) - Pure product, with no fillers - makes it really easy to work with. Cons: - Gritty texture (fine grit, though, not coarse). - Needs constant stirring to stay in suspension. These cons are not really a big deal. The magnesium is easy to quaff, so I am thankful. It's not like L-Tryptophan, which tastes like wax shavings, clumps up in a big mess, and refuses to enter into any sort of suspension with water. I just mix the magnesium in a pint glass with the slightly sweet taste of my powdered Insositol (a Vitamin 8 by Jarrow Brand), and sip it over the course of ten minutes. I just have to remember to stir it, or the magnesium falls out of suspension and sits in the bottom of my glass. After around a half hour (in the evenings), I feel super drowsy, and am able to nod right off. Even on my couch. I'm super impressed, and plan to keep this puppy around in my pharmacopia. If I take this mix during the day, I feel definitely calmer. If the anxiety is really bad, it won't be enough, but for most days, the magnesium is great, and I'm happy I discovered it.

The Most Vital Mineral
I recently received a shipment of 1 kg of Pure Magnesium Citrate Powder from BulkSupplements, after extensively researching the benefits of such. My experience with this product has been nothing but positive, and to a greater extent than initially expected After vitamin D, magnesium remains as the most widespread deficiency. Most individuals across the globe, especially those in America, are horribly lacking in this vital mineral, partly due to soil depletion, and also due to an unhealthy modern diet. Therefore, almost everyone should supplement with magnesium, as it is only found in respectable quantities in foods that few may eat on a regular basis, such as walnuts and fish. NERVOUS/ENDOCRINE: Magnesium plays a role in a plethora of activities within the human body, as well as in the brain. Magnesium plays a massive role in the regulation of serotonin, and especially in the production of melatonin. Supplementing with magnesium will act as a mild anti-depressant, as well as a sleep-aid. I have personally used it as a sleep-aid, and it is phenomenal. It brings a wave of calmness and clarity upon the body before sleeping, which allows a deep, restorative sleep. This is reason enough to make magnesium a part of your supplemental arsenal. MUSCULAR: The mineral also plays a role in reducing cramps and allowing muscles to fully recover from a contraction, which leads to better recovery and less muscle tension throughout the day. If you workout, you should take magnesium, as it assists in lactic acid removal, which will minimize delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and speed recovery. If you don't workout, you should still take magnesium, and probably even more so, as you are not stimulating your muscular tissue on a regular basis, which will lead to various problems too numerous to mention here, not exclusive of chronic muscular tension. SKELETAL: Magnesium also involves itself with bone formation, alongside calcium, vitamin D, and vitamin K2. If you wish to avoid problems such as osteoporosis, weak joints, stress fractures, or other physiological injuries involving bone structures, you must ingest adequate amounts of these 4 nutrients, as they are synergistic. This applies to teeth as well as bones. DIGESTIVE: In the modern era, humans consume far too many carbohydrates, and as a result we secrete far too much insulin, which gives us lamentable health problems, including type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome Magnesium improves cellular efficiency in transporting and metabolizing glucose, so we need less insulin to do the job properly. If you have eaten the modern diet for any extended period in your life, you should add this to your supplement list, as you are most likely suffering from some degree of metabolic derangement. EXCRETORY: If you have problems with constipation, magnesium citrate acts as a mild laxative. With both its laxative and calming effects, it brings a psychological effect of cleansing and is a peaceful way to end your day. Magnesium is a fantastic supplement, and it is relatively cheap to purchase. Alongside vitamin D, magnesium is the most important nutrient for the modern person, as we are all below optimal levels. Often, magnesium is sold in horse capsules, and I have no interest in taking these. Buying the powder provides a cheaper and more enjoyable option, and magnesium citrate provides for far better absorption than magnesium oxide, a cheaper alternative. Simply mix a teaspoon of of magnesium citrate powder with water, either a small shot glass or a larger glass, depending on your tolerance of the earthy taste, and drink the mixture about 1 hour before bed. Note that this particular powder is not very soluble in water, so you will need to stir the mixture before you drink.

Great price for easily absorbed magnesium
Seems just like any other magnesium citrate I've used. Much cheaper than buying capsules. Watch the dosage carefully(actually measure it) as it is easy to take too much and get diarrhea. I recommend no more than 1/2 of a teaspoon at a time and take with food. Probably start with 1/4 of a teaspoon to see how you handle it. I take either of those doses 2 to 4 times per day. More doses is better than riding the line of overdoing it. Taste is mild when mixed with a 20 ounce vanilla whey protein shake made with almond milk. It's there but not awful. Kinda gross in small amounts of water but the taste doesn't linger. Helps with healing muscles and bruising and improves sleep quality. Helps with muscle cramping too. Good for bones. Magnesium deficiency is rampant across most of the world, if you want to get yours assessed get a red blood cell test done, serum magnesium tests are not an accurate gauge. This is good for basic supplementation but if you need a lot I recommend getting a variety of better absorbing high quality chelates of magnesium, Poliquin Group is my preferred source. Adding topical forms in addition to oral supplementation will elevate levels faster than oral alone, apply topical creams to affected areas (sore/tight/cramped/bruised) or the backs of the knees if possible. The skin there is thin and facilitates optimal absorption.

Works better than magnesium citrate capsules
I used to take 2,250mg of mag citrate in capsule form (9 capsules) and it did not work as well as 400mg of this. I mix 1/2tbs with a small amount of water and lemonade mix and drink. It has a fine grit and needs mixing between drinks, but it's not repulsive. I was paying $42 per month on capsules. This large bag should last nearly a year, huge savings!

My first experience ordering from Bulk Supplements, and I am pleased!
Some things I like about this magnesium citrate powder from Bulk Supplements are: that it is completely tasteless, odorless, has no fillers, and can be easily added to water, juice, yogurt, applesauce, smoothies, any food or drink. I have read a lot of research that suggests that a high percentage of Americans are deficient in magnesium, and I know that I feel one hundred percent better (my muscles, my sleep, my digestion, my mood) when I take a high dosage of Magnesium (at least 500 mg per day, but sometimes much more than that). I have been taking magnesium for many many years, usually in capsule form, but this bulk powder is a much more economical way to buy it. I got this mag citrate powder because the whole family can take it. My 14 year old twin boys will not swallow tablets or capsules, and are rarely willing to apply liquid magnesium topically (even though that's a great way to get it into your system), so this is a great way (maybe the only way lol) to add magnesium to their diet. The taste of the liquid magnesium I have tried in the past is pretty nasty, and I suspect most liquid magnesium supplements and chewable magnesium tablets have to be formulated with many unwanted additives to make them palatable. So I had to figure out a way to get magnesium into my kids that was affordable and not too much of a hassle. One of my sons has a very mild adolescent idiopathic scoliosis and I am hoping the magnesium may help to relieve some of the muscle tension implicated in the progression of the condition. There is a lot of debate about the best form of magnesium to take, and certain forms are more appropriate for different health purposes, but for my general health purposes this form works just fine. It keeps my digestion running smoothly (not excessively so). I would say the laxative effect is a bit weaker with this mag citrate than with mag oxide that I used to take. And I actually prefer a magnesium with a mild laxative effect. In the past I tried other forms that were supposedly superior to mag ox and mag cittrate and found that I prefer the digestive assistance of the former. I find that magnesium reduces muscle tension and stress in whatever form. And I know that it will be working in synergy with the calcium, boron, Vit D3 and Vit K2 that I take to keep my bones, teeth, and the rest of my body healthier. Whatever form of magnesium you choose to take, it is definitely more economical to buy it in bulk, and powder is more economical than capsules. And I can customize the dosage for myself and for my kids with the powder. I am on a tight budget as a single parent, and this definitely was the most affordable way to get a large quantity of this essential supplement at a really reasonable price.

Once great supplement, little company transparency, recent quality issues
Full disclaimer: BulkSupplements has offered to send me a free item in return for a review after purchasing this. I started racing competitively in cycling about two years ago, and I always suffered from severe cramping while out on the bike during races or out on vigorous efforts. Things came to a head living on a college campus over the summer when the cramps intensified, I felt that I couldn't relax and I had very noticeable muscle twitching. A friend suggested taking magnesium. I tried taking a store bought mag. oxide supplement which helped, but didn't fully do it. On this friend's advice, I switched to citrate, buying from bulksupp's. Cramping cleared up, spasms stopped, and as long as I remember to take it I never have the same sort of problem. Normally I would give this 5 stars, but I have taken a star off because of the lack of transparency from BulkSupp's. They don't offer any independent laboratory analyses, country of origins, manufacturer certificate of authenticities or really anything other than their guarantee. I've had good experiences with them, but I'd like to see more transparency. **UPDATE 8/21/14** Opening my most recent replacement order, I was dismayed to find that instead of containing a clean fine powder, the supplement contained a bag full of coarse sand-like grains. I'm assuming that a moisture contamination occurred somewhere in the process. It's likely not harmful, but still unacceptable to me. I'm filing for a refund and ordering another as these things can happen and I've had otherwise great experiences with BulkSupps. However, until the refund processes, I'll have to knock it down to 2 stars. **UPDATE 8/26/14** Refund processed immediately, new bag came promptly, only to find that it had the same problem. I'm now sending that one back and am contacting bulksupps customer support. I did notice that while taking the grainy mag citrate, my eyes did start suddenly to twitch very noticeably at that time. I don't know if it's related, but there is something wrong with this powder and the twitching faded away when I stopped taking it. Concerning to say the least. I had a lot of confidence in BulkSupps, but that is starting to fade. Bumping it down to 1 star until I hear back.

I don't think I received what I ordered
I don't think what I received is magnesium citrate it should taste slightly bitter and dissolve easily in water. It does neither. After taking this i had heart palpitations all night resulting in chest pain for several days. I could not sleep, I broke out in a terrible sweat that lasted all night. I've never had this reaction to any magnesium. I will never buy anything from this company again.

Inaccurate Product Photos
Product picture shows the nutritional information to be 2000mg per serving, consisting of 330mg magnesium. However, what you will actually receive is 3500mg serving for 400mg magnesium. This is approximately 5% magnesium concentration reduction. They do list 3500/400 in the product title, but this is conflicting with the product photo.
