To get to the point it works. Here is my experience: I have owned this shampoo for 9 days now. To give you an idea of my situation I have a lot of dandruff. I may have psoriasis but I never got it medically diagnosed. It was at the point where flakes just kept coming down like snow. I know, gross. It was also at a point where instead of just itching, I would by habit scratch off small pieces of skin build up on my head, mostly the back of my head. This was obviously not good. I had learned to live with it for a bit until I finally decided to make a dermatology appointment to have it checked out. Well I had to wait about a month for the appointment and I was about week away from it when I decided to look up some shampoos and came across this one. I read some reviews and thought I’d give it a try. I’m not kidding when I tell you it took one use to feel a difference. I was really surprised because I thought no way would this work. The smell isn’t even that bad, I don’t know what people are really complaining about there. But I was not feeling the urge to itch. The flakes were practically gone. It was unreal. It has me in a much better mood. Things I will note and my recommendations: People complain that the packaging was horrible. I will say that the shampoo did come in an extra plastic bag in the box but nothing was wrong. I would recommend filling your palm with the shampoo and use that amount per wash. The shampoo is very foamy. I would spread it across my head and massage my scalp with my finger tips. I would leave it in for about 8 minutes before washing it out. The shampoo is also more watery than other shampoos. Results: much less itching, much less flaking, seems like my hair feels drier, fluffier almost, which to me is ironic but it’s nice. It has also put me in a more positive mood. Completely worth the money and I will continue to be buying this. I also canceled my dermatology appointment due to this shampoo. It really is a life changer, or at least so far. I’m showering every day mostly and I have skipped a day or two of showering and can feel on the second day slight itching is occurring but showering always makes it better for the rest of the day and most of the next. I have a staph aureus infection from scalp to under my feet. I am being treated by doctors of course, but this is a severe problem. It can be lethal to the person. The itching is maddening . And the infection leaves abrasions, rash sores, even some lumps on my head. This shampoo works very well. It relieves itch. Of course its temporary. The disease is not cured yet. But it removes some every shampoo and relives the itch enough to not lose my mind. I have bought dozens of items for hair, scalp and skin. This one works well. I plan to keep using it even after the infection is gone. The tar smell goes away fast. I recommend this highly. How did I get this deadly infection? Front End loaders, washers and dryers. They had no ability to clean themselves.. Buy clothes, sheet, pillow cases, towels, and much more had to be disposed of. The machines were buoying up bacteria, mold and fungas in them. There is NO safe brand of these. Get rid of them. I( drilled holes in mine and pounded out the controls with a hammer and screwdriver so the used appliance dealers would not retrieve them from the junk yard. Years back all the manufacturers were sued in a class action suit. EVERY brand with NO exceptions. You can google this. I did not notice my notification on it. It was only 35.00 regardless. They admitted no wrong doing and no recall. On 20 million machines. I am fighting for my life now. Close to death several Times and pulled through. Get rid of them! Nothing is worth this. If you cannot buy new machines, rent to own. Settle for a cheap pair. I bought top loaders and they have a huge barrel in them like the front loaders do. The deadly things growing in the machines were both in the washers and the dryers. Get rid of them. I have been sick now 15 months. Often can barely walk. I will answer any questions you send. I have severe seborrheic dermatitis which gives an itchy, scaly scalp. I have used the name brand tar shampoo for years and picked this up to try since it is significantly cheaper. It is almost as good as the name brand at a significantly lower cost. Why do I say almost? Well, it smells the same and has the same drying feel to the hair (use a good moisturizing condition or even a different shampoo on the ends of your hair). BUT the shampoo is just a little less thick than the name brand and doesn't seem to have an effect that lasts as long. With the name brand shampoo, I can wash my hair with it every other day - sometimes even go three days without washing with the tar shampoo before the itching starts to come back. With this shampoo, I start itching before the end of the second day without using it and definitely can't go three days without using it. So, while it is cheaper per ounce, I have to use more of it. I'm likely to go back to the brand name for that reason. However, if your problem is not as severe as mine (for instance, you only need to use the brand name once or twice a week), this might be good for you.

I suffer from eczema on my scalp and have been using tar gel shampoo for several years now. I try to buy the store brand (CVS, Publix, etc.) when they have it because it's a little less expensive than the Neutrogena T/Gel. However, all the stores and pharmacies around me have been out of stock of everything, which brought me to Amazon and this product. I am very pleased with it - it works just as well and the price is great...even cheaper than store brands! My only caution is the smell is a lot stronger than the Neutrogena original formula. It smells more like the extra strength. I don't mind though - that's to be expected with tar gel. And I use regular conditioner after shampooing so my hair still smells great! Highly recommend, especially if you need a strong product for more serious scalp conditions.

I have had scalp psoriasis for almost a year. I tried salves, ointments, shampoos, and apple cider vinegar. But the scales were so itchy that they began to bleed from the constant scratching. I finally tried Therapeutic T-Plus, and I can honestly say, my scalp is back to normal! I don't know if it will flare up again or not, but this shampoo gave me the only relief that I could find. It didn't work overnight. But I continued to use it as my regular shampoo, and within a couple of weeks, I was no longer scratching, and there is no evidence of any patches left on my scalp. Others mentioned the scent, but I found no scent at all, or al least a very mild one, that was not unpleasant at all. I was prepared to add some essential oil for scent if I found it as unpleasant as others, but I didn't need to use any.

I have dandruff and sensitive skin, so most shampoos that help relieve itching are out of the question. I've tried, with success, the Neutrogena products but they get very pricey. This shampoo works just as well, if not better and is a lot more affordable. The scent isn't as strong, though still smells (it is coal tar), which is a big plus. I've always still had itching and flaking sometimes even the next day after using these types of shampoos, but this one in particular keeps the itching down and is far less painful when I do get itchy. I will definitely be repurchasing this product.

After using the name brand for years, I thought I'd try this! That was a mistake! The other smell was strong, but this is downright repulsive! Perhaps it's because I was used to the original, but I can't get past it! Can't say whether it works or not. And that's obviously a non-starter. Couldn't even bring myself to use it!

This product got rid of my daughters dandruff better than head and shoulders! She has been suffering from bad dandruff for over a year, and I decided to try this out. Within one wash there were barely any flakes. After the second wash, her dandruff was completely gone. I use it on my hair occassionslly, when it gets a little greasy. However, I generally stick with Argan based shampoos, because my hair dries out. If you have issues with this drying out your hair, or are worried from the reviews, buy some extra moisturizing conditioners and hair masks. Let's make one thing clear about this product. It is specially designed to get rid of dandruff on oily, greasy hair that is prone to flaking. As a result, it is in no way moisturizing, so make sure you aren't scrubbing it on your ends. It's too harsh for that. For your ends get an Argan based shampoo. I bought a shampoo and conditioner on Amazon for under $20. Don't go for name brand stuff. It doesn't work. I got artnaturals argon oil conditioner and shampoo. A better shampoo on the pricier side is Brooklyn Botany Moroccan Argan Oil. If you have bad ends, get Marc Anthony Grow Long repairing anti-breakage mask. After you shower, top it all of with some Argan or coconut oil on your ends only. I know this sounds overwhelmingly ridiculous, but I have been trying products for the last 6 years trying to find the perfect stuff. Even if your ends aren't all that bad, I still recommend buying a moisture rich hair mask or conditioner for them. This shampoo is good for dandruff, but it is harsh on the vulnerable ends of long hair.
