Macoto Takahashi (1934-) is a prominent artist well known for his illustration of gorgeous girls. In the 1960s to 1980s, his illustrations of young girls with big eyes were very popular among young girls in Japan and he keeps working actively despite his age.The style of his illustrations is obviously influenced by Art Deco, and they are typical of Japanese manga drawings that are popular today. His illustration s characteristics are his decorative and precise depiction as well as his gorgeous and naive coloring.This book is to celebrate his 60th anniversary since his debut. As it compiles his work thoroughly, it will be a treasured book for not only fans of his romantic and girly artworks but also for illustrators and manga artist as a great reference. Review: Wonderful - I brought this lovely collection of Takahashi Macoto's work for my sister as a birthday present. The pictures are very nice and I think do show quite a large variety of his art, certainly enough for you to be able to recognise where he got inspiration for some of the pictures. For example the English bride is very obviously Diana, Princess of Wales on her wedding day, with her hair colour changed from blonde to brown. We were able to struggle through the Japanese section at the back of the book which gives further details about the artist and his work. If you don't read Japanese and want this book for more than looking at pictures, then I do not suggest buying it. The book is large and has plenty pages full of pretty girls, fashion, fowers, architecture, animals....It would be nice to know what the japanese text says but it is not a big deal that I don't. The amount I paid for this was pretty good too but to be honest, no matter the price, its absolutely worth having this.
