The battery is one standard alkaline AA battery, non-rechargeable. Easily replaced by unsnapping the battery cover.

How do you change the blades? Did directions come with your trimmer?

I don't think it has directions for the blade change if they ever wear out but I suspect new blade would cost more than another trimmer

is this good for sideburns?

Hello, yes it would be good for sideburns! It comes with different attachments. I use to shave my husbands head and it does a wonderful job.
