Great for panfishing
I was looking for a small reel to outfit my new pan fishing rod. I couldn't find a properly sized reel anywhere that wasn't ridiculously priced. This thing may be inexpensive, but it handles panfish like a champ and I've even brought a couple small bass in on it. It's body is plastic, but feels very durable. The bale the controls the line has an authoritative snap when closed and it has an optional reverse switch. This reel might not be a high end reel, but for pan fish like bluegill, it works very well and I trust it to take fish up to 10 pounds. Very good purchase.

this will do nicely. It's ok for a beginner or novice fisherperson
You guessed it, my kids broke my spinner reel, so I had to buy a new one. The one that they broke wasn't very high quality and neither is this one. If you're looking for something to let your kids attempt to make the worlds largest ball of fishing line with, this will do nicely. It's ok for a beginner or novice fisherperson, but if you're really into fishing, quit being so cheap! Some of the specifics would be that it makes a bit of noise as it's being reeled in, the drag is basically on or off with little sensitivity and the bail flops closed too easily.

Works well for backpacking.
I had a hard time finding a lightweight reel for backpacking, and I ended up doing a lot of online research without learning much. I believe this one is relatively light, which was my major concern. And it works fine. The handle can indeed be move in to make it less likely to catch on trees, etc. Definitely worth the purchase for that purpose, especially if you're considering much more expensive reels that you don't know are lighter.
