Watch that plug!
I bought this waterer in 2019. Has been wonderful since day 1. Has never frozen during snowy winters, keeps water clean. Doesn’t drip. Never really gave it another thought until today. Went out to check the water level after many days of 20 degrees and I was shocked to find the little drinking ports frozen and there was 1/4 inch thick ice on top. I got it all thawed out and filled up and rehung in coop. I figured the waterer had just worn out. I pulled up Amazon and started reading reviews and guess what I found? A review by angiepearl that solved the mystery. I am in charge of the animals but last week I was painting my pantry and asked my husband to go check the chicken waterer for me. He did, said he added some water and rehung it. He is not very careful about being precise about putting things together. I know there is only one way the plug goes in. He on the other hand didn’t even notice that. So while I’m thinking my waterer needs to be replaced, I realized he must have plugged the cord in wrong and that is why the water froze. Angiepearl’s review immediately jogged my memory that I was not the last one to check the water level. My waterer is still perfect after all these years. 5 stars aren’t near enough.

Best Purchase by far
Best purchase I've made since I got my chickens. Our water has not froze in negative temps in Indiana. I use a large flower watering canister to fill it but I removed the end of it so it fits perfectly without making a mess to fill it. Plus you can use this year round. Its a game changer and makes having chickens much easier, less mess, less stress and you're not having to clean a waterer out daily. Don't think just buy it you won't regret it

Our chickens thank you
Really works and keeps the chickens from getting frostbite. Before getting this I would have to change their water twice a day due to freezing. Convenient to fill with a flip cap on the top. I wish they made these in a larger size.

Life changing for chicken owners and worth the money
I wish I’d bought these sooner! I’ve gone several winters with chickens and delt with frozen waterers and it’s a nightmare. But just one freeze with these and I could never go back. I love the overall design. We got down in the single digits and they didn’t have any issues. The instructions say not to use an extension cord for these and I’m sure that’s just to cover their tails but who has an outlet at their chicken coop that’s 6 -8 feet away? So I’ve used a thick orange extension cord and haven’t had issues. I ended up buying two of these and have had them for several weeks in several freezes with no issues. If they are overfilled the water kind of leaks out the side and the opening where you pour in the water is great and easy to open and closes tight. Getting the lid to the big container to tighten all the way was a bit of a pain but once done you don’t have to do that anymore. I can say I’m not giving it five stars because I saw it for $10 less online after I just started using them.

Great waterer and, ultimately, service.
I bought this a couple of months ago and was excited to have something that appeared durable and easy to use. I didn't worry about plugging it in, because it wasn't cold enough. Unfortunately when I realized that I didn't have the cord I went through a lot of rigmarole to try to get one. It's 16 ft long and a hard thing to misplace and was supposed to have been inside of the waterer . I didn't think about it at the time I hung it up. My texts back and forth with them were not helpful because it sounded like I couldn't get a cord to replace that one and I was unhappy about paying another $88 for a new cord and a second water or that I didn't need. After talking to Premier One directly, they were very kind about it and offered to send me a replacement cord at no charge to me. As an aside, the water hasn't frozen in it but once when it got down to 17°. I think the container itself is pretty insulating. The chickens like it. I can fill it up and carry it outside very easily. The other thing is that the last one I had, while not terrible, required a base to sit on and was very difficult to clean the inside of. This one is not. In the meantime, I told them that if I found the other cord I would send them a check. You can't get a replacement cord through Amazon, but you can call them directly from their website.

Frozen water and nipples
I purchased this waterer because the heated base I was using wasn’t enough to keep my other waterer from freezing. I understand it’s been extremely cold here in CT, but this product claims to work down to -20°F—unfortunately, that hasn’t been my experience. When I went out to check on my chickens, the nipples were completely frozen with large ice formations beneath them. I couldn’t even open the lid because it was frozen shut. After bringing it inside, I found about 2.5 inches of ice on top of the water. It might work if it’s fully protected from wind and wind chill, but it didn’t work for my setup. I’ll be returning it and continuing the search.

Recommend if you live in area with harsh winters
I bought this for my chickens and we had our first full winter with it here in Ohio. It kept the water from freezing as expected and still works now. It made my life easier over the winter, as I didn’t need to fill it often either due to larger capacity (I only have 3 hens).

Great
Training the coop to use this can be a bit difficult. I found if you restrict their water for a little bit so they're thirsty helps keep their interest while showing them where to get water. I tried holding one and pushing her beak into the dispenser is ok but holding and pushing their head into it is not something they really like. So I just pushed the dispenser and them being curious saw the water drip out of it. I did this for about 10 minutes until one came up on her own and pecked it and that's all it took. Once one 'got it' the others watched and understood. This unit is made very well. Super easy to clean and keep the water from freezing. Although this unit isn't cheap it's worth it.
